Summary

The Object Bank Specialist at Cloud Chamber in Montreal will ensure high-quality modeling and texturing assets meet stringent standards. Responsibilities include inspecting and managing asset integration, reviewing and improving existing assets, optimizing assets for Unreal Engine 5, collaborating with artists and designers, streamlining asset production, and meticulously reporting and fixing defects. This role requires a keen artistic eye, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter, and relevant software. The candidate will contribute to the creation of stunning visuals for an immersive BioShock experience.
Must have:
  • 1-3 years AAA game experience
  • Proficiency in Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter
  • Unreal Engine 5 experience
  • Strong understanding of modeling & texturing workflows
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication & organizational skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with Jira, Perforce
  • Knowledge of prop baking and texturing
  • Understanding of game world building

Cloud Chamber is looking for an Object Bank Specialist with a keen artistic eye and a love for organization to join our studio in Montreal. Reporting to the Lead Object Bank Specialist, and working with a team of artists, it will be your responsibility to ensure that the quality and usability of the Modeling and Texture team’s work meets our rigid standards and can be seamlessly implemented into the game. On occasion, you may be called upon to fix issues that appear in an Object so together we can create stunning visuals for an immersive BioShock experience. 

Job Details: 

  • Inspect placeholder and final game assets and manage integration.
  • Review and improve existing assets and outsourced props. 
  • Optimize assets for integration.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for learning, applying, and enhancing technical guidelines. 
  • Work closely with Art and Technical Direction.
  • Work closely with Environment Artists and Level Designers to improve assets. 
  • Help streamline the asset production process. 
  • Accurately report & fix defects and bugs found on props by entering them into the database in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Creation and maintenance of test documents and processes in content collaboration software: Confluence/Slack.
  • Provide feedback in key areas to the developers to ensure the best possible quality is maintained. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail required as we collect and input information for Object Bank artists into Jira tickets and ensure clean data.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art, Studio Art, or Digital Art, or equivalent experience working in the games or animation industry.
  • 1-3 years AAA experience in 3D modeling and texturing, or working with an Object Bank.
  • Superior eye for technical details in evaluating models and the implementation workflow.
  • Experience with Maya, Zbrush, and Substance Painter. 
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5.
  • Good understanding of props baking and texturing, from the proxy stage to the final game integration. 
  • Strong understanding of modeling and texture workflow and pipelines.
  • Understanding of modeling and world building for games.
  • Proactive, motivated and autonomous.
  • Interest and dedication to advancing your craft, and eagerness to learn new techniques and software. 
  • Ability to quickly learn and to use specific in-house tools.
  • Knowledge of bug databases and/or database entry (Jira, TestTrack Pro, …). 
  • Basic knowledge of some file management system / version control system Perforce. 
  • Ability to take direction well.
  • Humble, open to coaching, an iterative process, and group critique.
  • A positive force multiplier with a great team-player attitude. 
  • Mature outlook on work ethics and responsibilities.
  • Intermediate level problem solving skills.
