As a Senior Hard Surface Artist at Cloud Chamber, you'll contribute to the next BioShock game, crafting high-quality AAA visuals. Collaborating with art leads and other modelers, you'll create detailed hard-surface assets (weapons, interactive objects, props, architecture). Responsibilities include modeling based on concept art and photo reference, ensuring consistency with rigging and animation, establishing the weapon creation pipeline, and working closely with leads to maintain quality. You'll need to effectively receive and apply feedback while maintaining a positive attitude. The role requires significant experience in AAA game development and expertise in various 3D software packages.
Must have:
  • 5+ years AAA game experience
  • Proficient in 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, Photoshop, ZBrush, Substance Painter
  • Unreal Engine 4/5 experience
  • Hard surface modeling expertise
  • Strong aesthetic sense
Good to have:
  • Traditional art foundation
  • Experience with concept art

We are looking for a Senior Hard Surface Artist to join our Cloud Chamber team and deliver high-quality AAA visuals. Reporting to the Art Manager, the Senior Hard Surface Artist will collaborate with other team members, Leads and Directors to create very high-quality assets, materials, and environments. In this role, you will contribute to carrying forward the artistic vision and use all your expertise to establish the visual bar for the game’s decor for the next installment of the BioShock franchise.

Job Details:

  • Collaborate closely with the Art Leads, Environment Artists and other Modelers to create highly detailed and visually compelling hard-surface assets, which primarily include weapons, but also interactive objects, props, as well as other architectural & environmental elements.
  • Create visually appealing, hard-surface 3D models based on concept art and/or photo reference while extracting the brightest details and exaggerating those to a point of caricature.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure consistency and compliance for rigging and animation.
  • Create exemplary benchmark weapons models and textures.
  • Highly contribute to the establishment of the weapon modeling/texturing creation pipeline and look development.
  • Works closely with Art leads to ensure that environments and assets match the quality bar and vision for the game’s direction.
  • Receive and apply feedback effectively while maintaining a positive attitude.

Skills, Experience et Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience creating high-quality 3D weapons, props, architecture and environments. for AAA games and at least 1 shipped title.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5 is highly desired.
  • Foundation in traditional art with ability to concept ideas.
  • Strong understanding of how objects and architecture are built in the real world. 
  • Highly proficient in 3ds Max, Maya, Blender and Photoshop.
  • Proficient in Z-Brush and Substance Painter.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of self-direction.
  • Highly skilled in hard surface modeling.
  • Interest and dedication to advancing your craft, and eagerness to learn new techniques and software.
  • Strong aesthetic appreciation for composition, proportion, mass, volume, light, lighting and color.
