As a Senior Data Center Facilities Technician, Electrical, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of Google's cutting-edge data centers. Your expertise in electrical distribution systems, high-voltage switching, and troubleshooting will be instrumental in maintaining a reliable and efficient infrastructure. You will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and responding to abnormal conditions in the data center's facilities systems and equipment, while adhering to strict safety and environmental standards. Your responsibilities will include: monitoring control room information streams, managing power distribution, troubleshooting electrical systems, and executing complex controls system programming for new projects. You will be a key player in ensuring the uptime and optimal performance of Google's data centers, guaranteeing the delivery of our services to millions of users worldwide.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Trade school qualification or certification in a related field
  • 4 years of experience in a HVAC, electrical, controls, water chemistry, generators, mechanical, or other similar technical domain
  • Experience troubleshooting for electrical distribution systems and in high voltage switching operations
Good to have:
  • Experience planning and executing installation, commissioning, and equipment startup following industry best practices and protocols
  • Experience working in the control room for critical operations
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems (e.g., high voltage, low voltage, protection and controls, power quality)
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data center environments and controls/monitoring systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and people skills, with the ability to prioritize work efficiently

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Trade school qualification or certification in a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in a HVAC, electrical, controls, water chemistry, generators, mechanical, or other similar technical domain.
  • Experience troubleshooting for electrical distribution systems and in high voltage switching operations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience planning and executing installation, commissioning, and equipment startup following industry best practices and protocols.
  • Experience working in the control room for critical operations.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems (e.g., high voltage, low voltage, protection and controls, power quality).
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data center environments and controls/monitoring systems.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

As a master of exceptional practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor multiple information streams in the control room and make accurate mission-critical decisions.
  • Be responsible for the uptime, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical distribution systems and power monitoring.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
  • Follow the site’s environmental health and safety policies.
  • Direct the execution of complex controls system programming, start-up, commissioning, documentation, and full facilities turnover on assigned projects.
