Job Description

As a Senior Applied Scientist at Bing, you'll play a crucial role in enhancing the web search engine's relevance and user experience. Key responsibilities include defining metrics for user experience, developing and applying machine learning models and ranking algorithms, managing and improving data pipelines feeding the ranking models, designing and maintaining a scalable ranking infrastructure, and exploring new ways to enhance relevance through data analysis and research. You'll work to increase user engagement by delivering highly relevant search results, contributing to the core search technology of Bing.
Must have:
  • Master's or PhD in CS/EE or related field
  • 3+ years experience
  • Strong problem-solving and design skills
  • Machine learning experience (deep learning)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. They should also have 3+ years of working experience, and strong skills in design and problem-solving, and a commitment to quality and engineering excellence at scale. They should be able to learn new techniques from textbooks or research papers and apply them to relevant business problems. Machine learning experience, especially in deep learning projects, is essential. Experience in recommendation algorithms or natural language processing is an advantage. Moreover, candidates should have strong skills in communication, collaboration, and analysis, and be able to execute effectively across team collaborations.

 

Responsibilities

The candidates' goal is to increase the number of users who use our web search engine by delivering the most relevant documents for their queries. To do this, they will need to:

- Define metrics that measure the quality of user experience and satisfaction
- Develop and apply cutting-edge machine learning models and ranking algorithms that match user intent and preferences
- Manage and improve the data and data pipeline that feed the ranking models with reliable and diverse signals
- Design and maintain a robust and scalable ranking infrastructure that can serve the ranking models efficiently and safely
- Explore new ways to enhance relevance by analyzing user data or learning from the latest research and best practices in the industry and academia
