The Technical Writer on the Zoox Manufacturing Operations team will author, edit, and publish all relevant technical publications and support the department's training activities. 

The Technical Writer will define, create, and update technical documentation associated with, but not limited to, work instructions, labor time, equipment maintenance, quality product specifications, process flows and diagrams, logistics procedures, safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and other relevant material. The technical writer would also revise documents, policies, procedures, and standards issued within Zoox and enhance them for correctness, presentations, or both. Creating style guides, templates, workflows, and trackers are also tasks that a technical writer may be expected to perform.

In this role, you will:

    • Author, Edit, and Publish Technical Documents: Develop and update a wide range of technical documentation, including but not limited to: Work instructions, Labor time estimates, Equipment maintenance guides, Product quality specifications, Process flows and diagrams, Logistics procedures, Safety protocols, Standard operating procedures (SOPs), Training manuals and content.
    • Review and Revise Documentation: Revise existing documents, policies, procedures, and standards to improve clarity, accuracy, and presentation quality. Ensure that materials are compliant with Zoox standards and industry best practices.
    • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Engage with engineers, technicians, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather and validate technical information. Ensure consistent communication and timely incorporation of feedback into documents.
    • Support Training Activities & Ensure Compliance: Create training content that is clear and understandable for technicians and operators. Assist with content for learning materials, such as short video clips and step-by-step instructions. Ensure documentation adheres to applicable industry standards (e.g., ISO, STE100), and that safety considerations are appropriately incorporated.
    • Create and Maintain Style Guides & Visual Content Creation: Define and implement style guides and templates that ensure consistency across all technical documentation. Use diagrams, illustrations, and callouts to improve user comprehension and engagement. Ensure documents are visually appealing and functional for their intended audience.
    • Process Documentation & Track Document Updates: Develop and maintain comprehensive process flows, ensuring all manufacturing and operational workflows are well-documented and accessible. Utilize tools and trackers to manage document versions and ensure all materials are kept current and aligned with operational changes.
    • Support Multiple Teams Cross-Functionally: Travel to various Zoox locations when required to support multiple teams within the Manufacturing Operations department.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related field.
    • 5-8 years of relevant work experience
    • Strong knowledge of content development cycles, documentation best practices, and tools (e.g., Oxygen, Dozuki, Adobe, Jira).
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency with creating and managing style guides, document workflows, and version tracking systems.
    • A clear understanding of UX principles to create user-friendly technical documents.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical topics in a simplified manner.
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $163,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
