The Senior Hardware Manufacturing PM leads NPI programs from silicon to system level, ensuring high-quality manufacturing at Microsoft's global datacenters. This role manages multiple cloud hardware programs, collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams. Responsibilities include managing build risks, conducting gate reviews, maintaining supplier relationships, and driving project schedules. The ideal candidate will bring innovation, strong communication skills, and experience in a fast-paced environment. They will also be comfortable presenting to senior management, highlighting risks, and providing recommendations.
Must have:
  • 7+ years program management of hardware development & manufacturing
  • 5+ years in manufacturing, operations, engineering, product, and program management
  • Proven experience in NPI to post-product launch
  • Leadership, management, facilitation, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills
  • Experience in high-pressure environments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Power BI
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (Mandarin)

  • Graduate degree in engineering or MBA

Overview

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

The Hardware Manufacturing PM Group (HMPM) is a team that collaborates with Microsoft’s suppliers, engineering design teams, business managers, and supply chain managers to ensure that the newest hardware that powers Microsoft’s cloud services is available to our customers on-time and at the highest levels of quality. A critical function in this work ensures the newest hardware developed by Microsoft is built at our supplier’s factories with efficiency, safety, and at the highest levels of quality. HMPM also ensures that our suppliers empower our customers by delivering this hardware and being agile and creative to work through the challenges of new product introduction. 

 

We are looking for a passionate, curious, and high-energy individual with a background on server design and manufacturing of products that cover Compute and GPU based AI workloads to join our team and take part in our vision to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more with Microsoft’s technology.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering: Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or any related engineering degree. 
  • 7+ years’ experience in program management of hardware development and manufacturing. 
  • 5+ years’ experience working in manufacturing, operations, engineering, product, and program management. 
  • Proven program management experience from NPI to post-product launch. 
  • Proven leadership, management, facilitation, and problem-solving skills including L1/L2 Triage Capability  
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills, and experience working effectively with all organizational levels. 
  • Proven experience prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure, fast-faced environment.  
  • Well versed in Microsoft Office tools (Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, Excel etc.) and Power BI. 
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) and ability to speak/read in Chinese (Mandarin) 

    

Preferred Qualifications (Desired): 

  • Graduate degree in engineering or an MBA with an emphasis in operations management 
  • Engineering experience in designing and/or manufacturing the parts and assemblies used in datacenter hardware. Additional experience and knowledge in the server industry product development process will be significantly advantageous. 
  • Server compute, storage or GPU product development or silicon/server manufacturing experiences
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data statistically and to translate statistical data into business narratives that enable executives to make timely and informed decisions. 
  • Experience in global supplier relationships and performance management. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with a growth mindset, grit humility, dependability, and attention to details. 
  • Proven track record in identifying a complex environment and driving improvements on scale. 
  • Excellent communications and leadership skills, ability to work well with cross functional groups, ability to work independently with remote supervision. 
  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications 
  • Ability to travel by up to 25% each year. 

 

These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the hardware manufacturing of New Product Introduction (NPI) program/s through the different phases of the engineering development lifecycle from silicon to system and rack level. 
  • Manage multiple NPI Cloud hardware programs with a goal of ensuring Microsoft’s hardware is manufactured at the highest levels of Q&R, safety and aligned to schedule for delivery to Microsoft’s global datacenters. 
  • Lead a cross functional team within the Manufacturing team in a fast pace and complex environment to ensure partner site readiness, identify and manage build risks, drive for mitigations and lead manufacturing gate reviews. Able to leverage experience and engineering skills to solve problems, fill gaps and achieve objectives through a cross functional team. 
  • Maintain NPI manufacturing relationship and operations with external partner towards a common goal. 
  • See the bigger program picture to drive program clarity and efficiency, influence stakeholders and shift things to the left. 
  • Define supply chain and drive team towards project schedules leading from operational readiness to product quality delivery. 
  • Provide innovation and creativity in developing new tools and processes that enable Microsoft and our suppliers to scale our growth in deploying NPI hardware with efficiency and predictability. 
  • Be comfortable and efficient in interacting with senior management, highlighting risks and providing recommendations to support product level decisions. Communicate program status to Microsoft stakeholders in a clear and timely manner using written, verbal, and analytic formats.
