Job Details

Netflix is one of the world’s leading entertainment services with 278 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Role

Netflix is releasing content at a pace and scale unlike any studio or broadcast channel in history: all around the world, at the same time for over 270 million members. With so many different titles to choose from across such a range of tastes and cultural standards, our members need the information and context to be able to tell at a glance that what they’re watching is appropriate for their household.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate leader for the Policy division of our Ratings and Partnerships team. The Ratings Partnerships Team is a center-of-excellence for maturity ratings, working closely with Content, Product, Public Policy, Communications, & Marketing groups at Netflix to connect our stories with millions of people worldwide.

In this role, you will chart the operational and executional strategy across Ratings Policy, leading a team of highly-skilled ratings policy strategists.  These strategists are highly cross-functional ratings experts who manage content verticals and located across the globe. This team analyzes content at every point in its lifecycle: pre-greenlight, script stage, filming, editing, and go-live. This requires a level of expertise and knowledge of all types of content issues, as well as strong judgment, critical thinking and great communication skills.

This is a highly cross-functional role. You will work closely with teams within Product Metadata and Ratings - Metadata Innovation and Content Understanding, to develop and execute our global ratings strategy.  You will also work with members of Legal, Marketing, Communications, and the broader Product organization, such as Consumer Insights, Operations, Globalization, and Engineering, to ensure we are providing accurate and locally relevant ratings and advisories to our members.

The ideal candidate is comfortable making decisions that can meaningfully scale across a large content slate but also that are appropriate in regions with highly nuanced content sensitivities and cultural perspectives. You are an inspiring and inclusive leader, with experience developing and coaching teams towards shared common goals, collaborating with multiple stakeholder teams, and leading through influence, all while demonstrating strong judgment in the face of ambiguity.

This role will report into the Director of Ratings and Partnerships and will be based in Los Angeles, California.

Key Responsibilities

  • Subject Matter Expert. Lead a global team with expertise in maturity ratings and sensitive content. Drive business innovation and vision for these content areas, both internally (for our teams and workflows) and cross-functionally (across our stakeholder teams). Knowledge of, and adherence to, global ratings boards’ standards for movies, shows, games, and live events

  • Operational Strategist & Project Management. Proactively identify business-critical issues and opportunities to improve how we develop, advise, and finalize maturity ratings at Netflix. Work closely with Content Understanding and Business Operations to ensure team workflows are yielding efficient and effective results.

  • Team Leadership. Empower, support, and cultivate a flat organization of senior-level professionals. A natural team leader with a proven track record of articulating team purpose and priorities, and rallying teams around these. Take a hands-on approach to ratings and sensitive content challenges to better support them in their day-to-day.

  • Resource & Capacity Planning. Plan and optimize team bandwidth across five content verticals with a robust slate of titles, ensuring adequate coverage and maximum impact. Contribute to long-term team planning and forecasting, anticipating roadblocks and volume spikes.

  • Global & Regional Player. Ability to be an advocate for the specific needs of Ratings Policy bringing a global lens, striking a balance between scalability, localization, and highly nuanced content sensitivities and cultural perspectives to drive meaningful ratings and advisories for our members.

  • Data Fluency. Partner with Metadata Innovation to further our operational metrics agenda and drive process improvements.

  • Culture Building. Be a strong culture role model, leading by example in alignment with our principles of Inclusion, Freedom & Responsibility, Context, Not Control, and Highly Aligned, Loosely Coupled, giving individual collaborators space and support to thrive at Netflix.

Experience & Skills

  • 12+ years in relevant fields, such as Standard and Practices, Regulatory Compliance, Communications, and Crisis Response

  • Experience managing and leading global multi-disciplinary teams

  • Experience managing and scaling a high volume of content across multiple content verticals

  • Curiosity to discover new ways of experimenting/testing and to work through ambiguity

  • Great judgment and decisiveness when dealing with timely, deadline-driven, content-related issues and concerns

  • Strategic thinking, able to identify potential issues and propose solutions

  • Be both quantitative and qualitative. You have strong analytical acumen to evaluate complex systems and dissect problems. You will build confidence across disciplines, tailor communication appropriately depending on your audience, and translate needs into opportunities.

  • Strong communication and cross-functional skills, with the ability to engage, listen, and collaborate with internal departments/teams to align from strategy through execution.

  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess a high level of intellectual curiosity, and have a goal-oriented entrepreneurial mindset, driven to succeed and always up for a challenge
