Responsibilities include overseeing business reviews with partners, managing publisher relationships, collaborating with internal teams, driving editorial with the internal publishing team, and liaising with the retail development team. The ideal candidate possesses proven experience in book publishing and licensing, strong business development skills, and excellent communication abilities.

About the Role 

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Publishing Director to lead the strategic expansion of our publishing category. This role involves defining success, driving editorial vision, and identifying new opportunities to create meaningful publishing partnerships. You will be responsible for developing long-term strategies aligned with our brand initiatives, while also identifying areas for innovation and growth. The Publishing Director will oversee business reviews with partners, manage relationships with key publishers, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure our publishing efforts align with market needs. Job Description

 

  • Define what success looks like & set strategy for expanding category
  • Develop long range plan to coincide with brand initiatives,
  • Identify white space for new products and innovations,
  • Identify, negotiate, close new meaningful publishing partnerships
  • Oversee ongoing partner / publisher business reviews and management
  • Publisher management (optimizing relationship, publisher title pacing, book retail placement)
  • Drive editorial with internal Publishing team
  • Partner with global territory teams to ensure publishing supported franchise strategy and meets market needs
  • Liaise with retail development team on in- store and online promotions
  • Maintain internal communication with key stakeholders
  • Maintain digital publishing catalog and files

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in book publishing and licensing, with a deep understanding of editorial development, strategy, and partnerships.
  • Expertise in business development, with the ability to identify and pursue new opportunities in the publishing space.
  • Familiarity with various content licensing business models and the ability to negotiate successful partnerships.
  • Strong critical thinking and strategic planning skills to drive growth and innovation in the publishing category.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and strategies clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to working across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Passion for staying ahead of industry trends and adapting strategies to meet market demands.
