Job Description

The Data Centre Engineer at Host Co. will perform physical inspections, troubleshoot, and provide technical support for IT equipment and facility infrastructure. Responsibilities include reviewing BMS alerts, checking premises for issues, assisting in infrastructure maintenance, interfacing with vendors, proactive infrastructure monitoring and capacity planning, racking/cabling/configuring IT equipment, replacing components, asset management, power consumption monitoring, documentation updates, general housekeeping, light electrical work, server/network configuration and testing, fiber optic testing, and managing trouble tickets. The role requires lifting/moving equipment, working non-standard hours, and working at heights. Experience with critical infrastructure (UPS, generators, BMS, chillers, FSM) is highly valued.
Must have:
  • Data center management expertise
  • IT systems/facility management experience
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Critical infrastructure knowledge (UPS, BMS, etc.)
  • IT equipment support experience
  • Network and server knowledge
  • Ability to lift/move equipment
  • Proactive problem-solving
Good to have:
  • CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, BSC certifications
  • Experience in 24x7x365 environments
  • Cross-functional data center knowledge (networking/IT/security)
  • Experience with BGP and router configurations

Your mission

The DC Engineer will be involved in physical inspections, troubleshooting, and providing technical support for both IT equipment and the facility’s infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Reviewing the Building Management System for alerts and negative trends as well physical inspection of equipment both in relation to computing and the facility´s infrastructure.
  • Regularly checking the premises for any issues or concerns.
  • Assisting in the planning and general maintenance of infrastructure systems within the facility.
  • Interfacing with vendors, contractors, and third party technicians.
  • Proactively monitor the infrastructure for issues and capacity planning.
  • Racking, cabling, and configuring IT equipment as requested.
  • Replacing failed components as needed.
  • Ability to lift/move equipment as required.
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours if required, and work on ladders and under raised floors.
  • Asset management and label standards knowledge.
  • Regularly reviewing power consumption and other environmental conditions within the server rooms.
  • Ensuring all incoming or outgoing equipment is properly documented.
  • Maintaining an inventory of regularly used items.
  • Updating facility related documentation as required.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy environment through general housekeeping activities.
  • General electrical work – perform light maintenance work and occasional installation.
  • Configure and test server and network equipment.
  • Test operating software and systems.
  • Test fibre optic cabling.
  • Manage trouble tickets with customers and operations teams.

What you'll bring

  • Good technical skills in data centre management methodologies and best practices.
  • Demonstrates an applied understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment.
  • Have previous experience or education related to IT Systems or Facility Management.
  • Familiarity with critical infrastructure equipment and tools like UPS, generators, BMS (Building Management System), chillers, and FSM (Fire Safety Management) is highly desirable.
  • IT Knowledge: Solid understanding of computers, electrical equipment, hardware/software, internal networks, and carrier networks (e.g., BGP and router configurations).
  • Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Complies with Data Centre Services (DCS) business unit and service-level policies, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Prior experience supporting IT equipment in production or mission-critical 24x7x365 environments.
  • CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), and Basic Structured Cabling (BSC) certifications are desirable.
  • Proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks.
  • On-call Availability: Willingness to be available for on-call duties as required
  • Cross-functional knowledge and experience in data centres: strong expertise and experience in networking/IT, and with experience in security (fire protection, access control, CCTV).
  • Full professional proficiency in English. *The selection process will be conducted in English.
