Job Description

As a Software Engineer in the Data Platform team, you'll design, build, and deploy large-scale data platforms for PlayStation's data-driven features. Responsibilities include building and supporting software for real-time data analytics and visualization, developing streaming pipeline solutions using technologies like Kafka and Kinesis, and collaborating with global teams. You'll work with cloud-based services (AWS preferred), OLAP/MOLAP databases, container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and ensure high availability of the platform. This role requires strong expertise in data engineering, data structures, and software design using Scala, Java, or Python, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.

As part of our Data Platform team, you will play a key role in building cutting-edge systems that power PlayStation’s data-driven features, delivering impactful insights and enabling seamless, interactive experiences!

The Software Engineers within our Platform Engineering Group design, build, document, and deploy large-scale data platforms that optimize performance and scalability across PlayStation systems. You will work on solving complex data challenges, improving platform capabilities, and ensuring high availability, all while supporting a dynamic, interactive environment for PlayStation users.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about building innovative data platforms that scale to millions of users, collaborating across Engineering and Product teams in an agile environment. You’ll have the opportunity to work with the latest technologies, tools, and processes, helping to drive forward our technical and architectural goals.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Play a pivotal role in build, code review, deploy, and support software for our Real Time Data Analytics and Visualization Platform.
  • Be part of a team building streaming pipeline solutions to reshape data and ingest into the platform in near real time.
  • Have extensive hands-on technical domain expertise in data infrastructure and visualization within the cloud (preferably AWS) ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with the team globally in different time zones.
  • Actively participates in rotational, on-call support for Production/critical issues
  • Create required technical and user documentation
  • Represent the team in technical forums, present designs, and share experiences with other Sony software development organizations.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness through usage of unit tests for portions of code delivered

What we’re looking for:

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in software development, design and analysis using Scala, Java, or Python
  • Strong foundation in data engineering, data structures and software design.
  • Experience with real time data streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis
  • Experience with OLAP/MOLAP database technologies such as Apache Druid, Pinot, Clickhouse
  • Experience with container technologies, such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EKS
  • Hands-on experience in cloud-based web services, at enterprise scale, AWS is preferable.
  • The drive and passion for quality with the ability to inspire, excite and motivate other team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with others at all levels, effective at working with geographically remote and culturally diverse teams.
  • Strong sense of ownership and passion to provide world class customer experience.
