As Principal Sound Designer at Arrowhead Game Studios, you'll lead the audio direction, establish workflows, and create high-quality sound assets for their co-op games. Responsibilities include defining audio standards, collaborating with various teams (art, programming, external vendors), conducting SFX recording sessions, mentoring junior designers, and improving audio workflows. You will be responsible for the entire audio pipeline, ensuring it meets the high standards of the company. The role requires mastery of audio production software and hardware, experience with VO pipelines and technical audio design. The ideal candidate will understand how to use sound to enhance storytelling and evoke emotions.

We are now looking for a Principle Sound Designer

As a Principal Sound Designer, you will take ownership of the audio pipeline at Arrowhead, driving the immersive soundscape of our games to new heights. You will lead the audio direction, set quality benchmarks and mentor the team, ensuring Arrowhead’s audio quality reflects our game vision.
 

What you'll do: 

  • Define and lead the audio direction, establishing workflows, structures, and best practices to meet the needs of our projects.
  • Define and implement high-quality audio assets for key game elements, including enemies, player actions, environments, and UI.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to align audio standards with the overall game vision.
  • Set quality benchmarks for sound design, mixing, and implementation across internal and external teams.
  • Assess and select audio vendors and partners, ensuring they align with our quality and creative standards.
  • Partner with IT to identify and implement reliable and cost effective hardware and software solutions.
  • Work closely with the Art Director to establish music direction.
  • Lead innovation in audio, pushing creative and technical boundaries.
  • Oversee and conduct location SFX recording sessions to deliver authentic, immersive soundscapes.
  • Provide hands-on support to internal and external audio teams, troubleshooting and refining as needed.
  • Mentor and guide all sound designers at all levels, providing constructive feedback and empowering them to excel.
  • Regularly review and improve audio workflow processes to enhance efficiency and output quality.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a senior or principal sound designer in an in-house game development environment.
  • Strong ability to create and integrate high-quality sound assets as key gameplay elements.
  • Mastery of industry-standard audio production and post-production software, hardware, pipelines, workflows, and processes.
  • Experience planning and conducting location SFX recording sessions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects; while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting deadlines.
  • Proven experience with Voice Design and VO pipelines.
  • Proven Experience with technical audio design and audio propagation systems.
  • Collaborating with in-house and off-site sound teams and programmers.
  • Understanding emotion and tension in storytelling and being able to tell a story through sound.
  • Solid understanding of recording techniques, microphone placement and having the ability to direct voice talent.

Practical Information

Scope: Full-time: 40 hours per week with initial 6 month probation period.
Location: Office first, hybrid solution possible. You need to be eligble to work in Sweden.
