As an Externalization Project Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in managing the end-to-end process of externalizing localization projects at Netflix. This includes defining roadmaps, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, executing projects, and ensuring successful implementation. You'll work closely with Partner Managers to plan, scope, and roadmap projects. You'll also be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks and dependencies, gathering project context, and defining success metrics. Your responsibilities include running project kick-off meetings, reporting on project status, and escalating blockers as needed.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of project management experience in localization or broadcasting
  • 3+ years of vendor management experience, ideally working with global vendors
  • Working knowledge of localization or broadcasting industries
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The Role

Localization at Netflix is centered around linguistic excellence, a great team environment, and cutting-edge technology. We are responsible for the translation and cultural adaptation of everything Netflix creates - from beautiful user interfaces to cinematic original programming. Our work is not just about translation; it is about providing our users with an experience that feels local.

Netflix content is made available to members around the globe and we lean on vendors to provide subtitling and captioning assets in 30+ languages. The Partner Engagement team is responsible for building the vendor ecosystem strategy to enable this at scale. We are currently looking for a Project Manager to help us scale our emerging businesses and stabilize our core growing business.

As a Project Manager, you primarily work with Program Managers on our team who are responsible for setting the externalization strategy and roadmap for their respective vendor externalization programs. You will also work with other internal teams in Globalization and external vendors. You are responsible for the successful implementation, execution, coordination and delivery of the projects in your scope of work.

They have a demonstrated ability to manage priorities and projects and have the right mix of organizational and communication skills.

This role can be based in our Los Angeles or Los Gatos offices in a hybrid model.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end externalization projects, including roadmap definition with clear deliverables and owners, coordination with internal/external stakeholders, execution, and implementation.

  • Collaborate closely with Partner Managers on project planning, scoping and roadmapping.

  • Identify critical business blockers, risks or dependencies that will impact the success of your projects.

  • Gather and provide project context to influence cross-functional stakeholders in solving these blockers.

  • Define success criteria and metrics, including adherence to budgets, deadlines and quality thresholds.

  • Run project kick-offs and meetings with cross-functional groups to ensure accountability for execution.

  • Report on project status and escalate blockers when needed.
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, or Master’s degree, with a focus on business, operations, procurement, project or vendor management

  • 5+ years of project management experience in the localization or broadcasting industry

  • 3+ years of vendor management experience, ideally working with vendors globally distributed

  • Working knowledge of localization or broadcasting industries

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment

  • Able to work on multiple projects in parallel and pivot quickly

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills

  • Bias to action, proactive & innovative by nature

  • Strong attention to detail

 Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $70,000 - $370,000. 

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
