Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer on Google's Core Data team, you'll build the technical foundation for Google's flagship products. Responsibilities include writing and testing code, participating in design reviews, leading a team of 3-5 engineers on Indexing Engine development, reviewing code for best practices, and deploying projects with speed and quality. You'll also triage and resolve system issues, analyze their impact, and contribute to end-user documentation and support. The role requires proficiency in Java or C++, data structures, algorithms, and experience with large-scale distributed systems. You'll work on critical projects, impacting technical decisions across Google. The team aims to build central solutions, break down technical barriers, and enhance Google's existing systems.

Must have:

5+ years software development experience
Java or C++ proficiency
Data structures/algorithms expertise
Experience with large-scale systems
Team leadership (1 year preferred)

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS
Experience building experimentation solutions
Independent project completion ability

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java or C++), and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
Experience in building experimentation solutions.
Ability to design and complete projects independently.
Ability to ramp up and learn quickly in a technically complex domain.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
Lead a team of 3-5 engineers to drive outcomes of Indexing Engine development experience solutions.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Build and roll out projects with quality and speed, including end-user documentation, production deployment/monitoring, process automation, and customer support as needed.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
