Job Description

As Regulatory Counsel, Content, you'll join a global team providing subject matter expertise and engaging with regulators to address content law in a changing economy. You will interpret laws, partner with internal stakeholders to mitigate risk, and communicate compliance externally. Responsibilities include interpreting laws into requirements for various teams, providing legal advice on compliance programs, managing government discussions, and negotiating disclosures on compliance efforts. The role requires deep understanding of content moderation laws, secondary liability, notice-and-takedown procedures, consumer protection, free speech protections, and relevant acts like the Communications Decency Act and Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Experience with EU Digital Services Act and online child protection laws is highly valued.
Must have:
  • JD, LL.B., or equivalent
  • 7+ years attorney experience
  • 7+ years regulatory compliance experience
  • Admitted to the bar
  • Interpret laws and advise on compliance
  • Manage government relations
  • Mitigate regulatory risk
Good to have:
  • Experience with content moderation laws
  • Experience with DMCA, CDA, EU DSA
  • Experience developing compliance programs
  • Experience with regulators (FTC, DOJ, etc.)

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • 7 years of experience with legal, regulatory, or corporate compliance, including addressing, minimizing, and avoiding regulatory risk.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with laws and regulations governing content moderation, secondary/intermediary liability, notice-and-takedown procedures, consumer protection, or related areas of law, including advising on free speech protections, the Communications Decency Act, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, EU Digital Services Act, and online child protection laws.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and maintaining programs that ensure products comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments.
  • Experience managing projects, partnering with cross-functional teams, and the ability to understand technical issues.
  • Experience in engaging with regulators, including State attorneys general Federal Trade Commission, Department of Justice, and global content or consumer protection authorities.

As Regulatory Counsel, Content, you will join a global team that provides subject matter expertise and engages with regulators, academics, and others to consider the role of Content law in the changing economy, the development of new technology, and passage of new laws and regulations. The role involves interpreting laws, partnering with internal stakeholders across the company to mitigate risk, and helping communicate our compliance externally.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $224,000-$319,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Interpret laws and other compliance obligations into requirements for Compliance, Business, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Provide legal advice on compliance programs and policies to help mitigate risk.
  • Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on compliance readiness efforts.
