Job Summary: We’re hiring a SR Backend Java Engineer with a strong background in large scale distributed systems.  You’ll work on one of the largest distributed systems in the world, running on thousands of machines and handling petabytes of data. You’ll be developing infrastructure and solving many technical challenges in the areas of distributed computing frameworks, data structures and algorithms. This team develops and maintains high-performing systems to be used by roughly 200 million plus active users.  We develop technology that changes the internet while handling billions of inbound connections per day to manage trillions of messages requiring petabytes of efficient storage.
 
You will be designing and implementing next generation services.  Our customer is embarking on a transition from data centers to Public cloud infrastructure, and you will work on a complete Java stack that serves hundreds of billions of transactions daily.  Develop and maintain REST web-services that power our services, caching and data processing.
 
Work Location: US-Remote

Key Responsibilities:

      Design and develop large-scale distributed systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexity
      Deploy, monitor and operate large scale production systems distributed across the globe 
      Automate the provisioning, CI/CD pipelines, and management of our infrastructure
      Lead projects and mentor junior team members
      Participate in agile development with weekly sprints, planning & estimating work, daily standup, & retrospective
      Effectively collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams
      Recommend alternative approaches to solving complex problems and use new technology to achieve goals

Qualifications:

    • Strong experience in large-scale distributed systems 
    • BS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience) experience
    • 8+ years of Java experience
    • Experience in async programming, memory management, JVM internals.
    • Experience in implementing and/or operating highly scalable and available services on public cloud environments (AWS, GCP)
    • Experience with OOP: Java, C++, or similar
    • Solid understanding of CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, object oriented programming)
    • Familiar with HTTP and TCP/IP protocol
    • Experience with development on Unix (Linux) platform
    • Experience with NoSQL and Key/Value datastores, e.g redis/mongodb/memcached
    • Experience with kubernetes
    • Experience with connection tuning, performance tuning, optimization

The following information is required by pay transparency legislation in the following states: CA, CO, HI, NY, and WA. This information applies only to individuals working in these states.
 
·       The anticipated starting pay range for Colorado is: $105,100 - $154,110.
·       The anticipated starting pay range for the states of Hawaii and New York (not including NYC) is: $111,800 - $164,010.
·       The anticipated starting pay range for California, New York City and Washington is: $122,500 - $179,630.
 
Unless already included in the posted pay range and based on eligibility, the role may include variable compensation in the form of bonus, commissions, or other discretionary payments. These discretionary payments are based on company and/or individual performance and may change at any time. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.
