As a Software Engineer III, Infrastructure, Spanner at Google, you'll design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions for Google's distributed database system, Spanner. You'll work on projects critical to Google's needs, managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code in C++, participating in design reviews, contributing to documentation, debugging system issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role requires experience with distributed systems, concurrency, multithreading, and data structures and algorithms. Experience with database internals and performance analysis is preferred. This is a full-time position with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you grow.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C++, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an
    academic or industry setting.
  • Experience architecting and developing distributed systems.
  • Experience in concurrency, multithreading, and synchronization.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience with distributed databases and database internals.
  • Experience with performance analysis, debugging, and improving performance of distributed systems or low-level systems debugging.
  • Proficiency in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
