Microsoft is seeking Software Engineers to contribute to the development of Azure Sphere, a secure IoT platform. Responsibilities include maintaining a secure embedded Linux distribution, building security prototypes, evaluating hybrid cloud architectures for edge-based AI, and ensuring software quality. The role involves working on security features like certificate and key management, and contributing to areas such as Confidential VMs and Runtime Attestation. The ideal candidate will have experience with containers, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies, along with proficiency in languages like Python, C/C++, and C#.
Must have:

  • Experience developing security features (certificate, key management)

Our team currently develops Azure Sphere, Microsoft’s turnkey, end-to-end, highly secured platform for the Internet of Things. We work in small, collaborative teams in Microsoft's Edge and Platform Division to build the Azure Sphere Security Services, Linux-based operating system, integrated developer experience, and tools.

We're looking for software engineers to join our team, both to work on the core product and also to apply their knowledge to the wider area of security at the edge within Microsoft. This could include but is not limited to things like Confidential VMs, Runtime Attestation, and securing AI at the edge.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in one or more programming languages including, but not limited to, Python, C/C++ and C#.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with containers, Kubernetes, and related cloud and hybrid-cloud technologies.
  • Experience developing security features such as certificate management, key management, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND substantial technical engineering experience with coding in two or more languages including, but not limited to, Python, C/C++, and C#.
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in two or more languages including, but not limited to, Python, C/C++, and C#.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Linux internals and/or embedded system development.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Responsibilities

  • Help maintain our Secure Embedded Linux distribution, its security profile, and its build infrastructure.
  • Build software prototypes and conduct experiments to evaluate alternative architectures for security-related hybrid cloud deliverables, including edge-based AI tools.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for the development, quality, diagnosability, and testing of the software you build.
