Services Engineer

As a Services Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing a range of services for use by the whole development team. You will work with the Online and Gameplay teams to deliver and deploy services that they can seamlessly integrate features into, looking for ways to improve the scalability and flexibility of those systems at every opportunity.

Key Duties

• Working closely with the design and technical teams to implement robust and scalable online services
• Own the planning and development of large bodies of work, with minimal supervision
• Produce clean and robust code, following all standards and guidelines, including the use of automated testing processes
• Establish online service features such as matchmaking, friends, and commerce
• Be aware of risks in your work and the wider project, and actively mitigate them
• Support less experienced team members, mentoring them, and raising the standards of the whole Engineering team
• Champion quality within Lighthouse Games and our online services development
• Actively take part in our collaborative and creative team spirit

• Previous experience working on a shipped game title, and supporting it post-launch
• Experience in Node.js
• Strong engineering skills, including a solid understanding of code architecture best practices, problem solving, debugging, and optimisation
• Knowledge of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Microservices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to plan and meet scheduled goals
• Work effectively and independently with minimum guidance and support
• Passion for gaming and game development

Desirables

• Experience in Unreal Engine 4 or 5 on a AAA title
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure
• Strong database experience
