Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer I, you'll contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of Zinnia's software platforms. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams on innovative software solutions for internal stakeholders and clients, focusing on efficiency and improved service. Responsibilities include creating efficient code, providing support and troubleshooting, participating in on-call rotations, collaborating with global teams, mentoring junior engineers, defining requirements for custom software projects, and acting as a subject matter expert. The role requires advanced C++ development skills, strong mathematical abilities, and experience with CI/CD pipelines and various software engineering tools.

Must have:

7+ years software development experience
Advanced C++ development (CMake)
Strong mathematical skills
Back-end systems and services expertise
CI/CD (GitHub Actions)
Experience with software engineering tools and methodologies

Good to have:

Additional C-like language experience (C#/Java/TypeScript)
Financial industry background

Who You Are

Senior Software Engineers play a key role in the design, development/configuration, unit testing, installation, and ongoing maintenance of Zinnia’s software platforms. Zinnia Software Engineers work with stakeholders to develop solutions and/or products that fulfill the needs of Zinnia internal stakeholders and clients. Those solutions and/or products help Zinnia and Zinnia clients to be more efficient and provide better service to end customers. Software Engineers interact directly with project leaders, business stakeholders, and may periodically interact directly with Zinnia clients.

What You’ll Do

Work as part of a global, cross-functional team to develop innovative software for Zinnia stakeholders.

Contribute to projects by creating well-designed, customized, testable, efficient code for company platforms.

Assist our teams in providing ongoing support, troubleshooting, improvements, or custom enhancements to existing company platforms.

Occasionally participate in on-call rotations and/or provide after-hours support.

Collaborate with our global teams, internal stakeholders and customers.

Act as a subject matter expert for junior team members.

Assist or lead in defining the requirements for custom built software projects.

What You’ll Need

7+ years of software development experience.

Undergraduate degree in technology, or equivalent relevant work experience.

Knowledge and experience working in the insurance industry

Advanced Knowledge of cross-platform C++ development using CMake.

Strong Mathematical Skills

Strong desire to work on back-end systems and services

Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines in GitHub (GitHub Actions)

Demonstrated expertise with software engineering tools (Visual Studio Code, Eclipse, etc) and methodologies (Kanban, Scrum, etc).

Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office.

Excellent work ethic. Ability to work and travel independently.

Demonstrated strategic thinking skills.

Highly effective communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills. Excellent troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work as part of a cross-functional, global team.

Awareness of advanced technical concepts (examples: design patterns, SOA, SaaS, SDLC, DDD).

Additional C-like language experience (C#/Java/TypeScript)
