Job Description

The Data Center Technician III at Google contributes to and leads projects in deploying, maintaining, and supporting Google Cloud region infrastructure. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving critical technical issues, testing and troubleshooting new server hardware, configuring and troubleshooting OS issues, and resolving technical problems across hardware, software, and applications. The role involves working with cutting-edge computer technology, often requiring manual installation and movement of racks. The ideal candidate possesses experience with operating systems, networking protocols, server hardware, and ideally Linux systems. Project management and leadership skills are preferred.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Operating systems and networking protocols experience
Computer and server hardware troubleshooting
Resolve technical issues and communicate with stakeholders
Deployment, maintenance, and support of infrastructure

Good to have:

Data center/network operation center experience
Project management and leadership
Server system maintenance and monitoring
Linux OS experience
Collaboration and teamwork skills

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with operating systems and networking protocols.
Experience with computer hardware and server hardware or troubleshooting/diagnosing.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
Experience in project management and leadership.
Experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
Experience with Linux operating systems.
Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome issues.

About the job

As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.

Responsibilities

Contribute to and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of Google Cloud region (e.g., cloud data center) infrastructure.
Lead troubleshooting and resolve critical or escalated technical issues regarding affected equipment.
Help test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs.
Configure and troubleshoot OS-related issues on server.
Resolve technical issues (e.g., hardware, software, application, operational, process) using different tools until final resolution communicating with different stakeholders.
