Job Description

The Corporate Events Manager at Coursera will be responsible for the strategy, planning, and execution of large-scale events, including the annual Connect conference, President's Club, Sales Kick-Off, and other flagship events. This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with teams across Marketing, Sales, Partnerships, Content, and more. Responsibilities include budget management, vendor relations, communication strategy development, and post-event analysis. The ideal candidate has 7-10 years of experience in event planning in tech or education, proven project management skills, and expertise in virtual and hybrid event technologies.
Must have:

Job Overview

The Marketing & Communications team is responsible for connecting the world to lifelong transformative learning. They also work to shape public conversations on the future of education and work. While this role sits in Marketing, the Event Manager works heavily cross-functionally, liaising with Content and Credentials, Enterprise Sales, Product, Legal, Finance, and more. 

The Marketing & Communications team is looking for an experienced Event Manager and all-around doer with a passion for creating consensus, driving timelines, owning event execution and deliverables, planning exciting and memorable experiences, driving program creation, and supporting the overall success of events from strategy through execution and post-event tracking.

Reporting to the VP of Global Communications, you will partner with key stakeholders to align event objectives to the organizational strategy, brand, purpose, and values. You will work closely with stakeholders to develop event objectives, agenda, and programming. Develop, implement, and iterate on effective, scalable event planning processes and systems. Establish and maintain vendor relationships and oversee contract negotiations and service delivery of select vendors, particularly production, AV, and venue management. Manage the event budget to balance quality, function, and cost.  Report the results and learnings internally with a goal of continuous improvement. 

Responsibilities

  • Understanding the brand and targeted event outcome; establishing budgets and timelines to ensure accuracy, professionalism, and consistent brand presentation; and event expectations and needs on all levels.
  • Support the development and adoption of best practices, training, and high standards of excellence across all events; serve as a subject matter expert for Courserians planning lower-tier and internal events throughout the company.
  • Own the strategy, planning, and execution of Coursera’s annual conference, Connect, as well as other flagship and corporate events and top-tier 3rd party tradeshows. It includes working heavily with cross-functional teams to drive registrations and create unique experiences. 
  • Own the project management, planning, and execution of large-scale internal events such as the President’s Club and Sales Kick-Off.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional marketing, sales, and partnerships teams on affiliate events – to develop event project plans, including objectives, target audience, strategies, tactics, metrics, dependencies, timelines, and budgets. 
  • Manage agency and vendor relationships for event production and execution. Partner with the legal and finance teams to track contracts and expenses.
  • Lead pre-event planning meetings, providing event support, preparing communications, coordinating event logistics, and conducting post-meeting assessment activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience planning large-scale, high-impact, high-visibility in-person and virtual events in tech and/or education industry, preferred.
  • Experience in planning, building, and managing event strategies and project plans, coordinating projects with cross-functional team leads while being hands-on and doing tactical work.
  • Proven track record in performing well in a fast-paced environment and organizational skills to effectively and independently manage multiple projects - highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong executive presence and communication.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving cross-functional collaboration across diverse sets of stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience developing and executing internal and external event communications strategies to ensure 
  • Experience working in an asynchronous environment with Google Suite tools and Slack.
  • Fluency in all aspects of Cvent Event Management, including registration, logistics, reporting, and event websites, as well as familiarity with Cvent Supplier Network, Passkey, and OnArrival.  
  • Familiarity with marketing CRMs, Salesforce, and how they integrate with Cvent, and facility in using Jira.
  • Able to travel as needed to conduct site visits and attend most strategic in-person events  (<20%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with virtual and hybrid event technology platforms and concepts.
  • Knowledge of post-event data analysis and reporting best practices.
  • CEP, CMP, PMP, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with the education technology industry is a plus.

Compensation

Coursera offers competitive pay and equitable compensation practices. Our job titles may span more than one career level. This role's targeted hiring base salary range is between $134,300 to $158,000.  The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, including but not limited to prior work experiences, training/education, transferable skills, business needs, and geographical location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for variable pay, equity, and benefits.
