Job Description

The Business Development Manager will lead initiatives to enhance the firm's business development strategy and growth. Responsibilities include creating proposals and RFP responses, partnering with the Director of Practice Operations, coordinating lateral hire onboarding, managing directory submissions, supporting strategic planning, aligning BD efforts with industry and client strategies, overseeing marketing and events, utilizing CRM and marketing automation tools, overseeing BD budgets, monitoring industry trends, and supervising business development staff. This role requires experience in corporate practices business development at an AMLaw firm and strong communication and problem-solving skills. The position is based in either New York City or Chicago and requires 3-4 days per week onsite.

We are currently partnering with a prestigious Global Law Firm to find a Business Development Manager to join their team in either their New York City or Chicago office. This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional to drive marketing and business development efforts across key corporate practices, including Capital Markets, Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Private Equity.

Position Overview: As the Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading initiatives that enhance the firm's business development strategy and growth. You'll collaborate with attorneys and other stakeholders to create proposals, integrate lateral hires, support marketing and event efforts, and provide strategic direction to ensure alignment with firmwide goals. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the firm’s success while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proposals & RFPs: Lead the creation of proposals, RFP responses, and strategic writing, guiding team members on persuasive content development.
  • Practice Operations: Partner with the Director of Practice Operations to implement key BD initiatives across assigned practices.
  • Lateral Recruiting & Integration: Coordinate the onboarding and integration of lateral hires, working with Talent and Firm Development.
  • Directory Submissions: Manage submissions for rankings and awards, collaborating with attorneys and marketing teams to ensure timely and accurate responses.
  • Strategic Planning: Support the development of strategic plans for corporate practices and key BD initiatives.
  • Industry & Client Strategy: Align business development efforts with industry and client team strategies across the firm.
  • Marketing & Events: Oversee the creation of marketing materials, execution of events, sponsorships, and track ROI.
  • Data & Analytics: Utilize CRM and marketing automation tools to monitor client behavior and identify business opportunities.
  • Budget Management: Oversee BD budgets, approve expenses, and recommend investments in strategic initiatives.
  • Opportunity & Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends, market opportunities, and relevant news for assigned practices.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and develop business development staff, providing coaching and professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7+ years of business development, sales, or marketing experience at an AMLaw firm.
  • Experience in Corporate Practices Business Development is essential.
  • Prior management experience is preferred.
  • Must be within a commutable distance to the local office and able to be onsite 3-4 days per week.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including MS PowerPoint and Teams).
  • Professionalism, discretion, and adaptability.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed.
