Senior Software Engineer (Server) - Game Of Thrones

Position Overview:

Zynga is looking for a server-side engineer in the Austin, Bay Area, Chicago, or Toronto areas, and more specifically, someone whose level of experience should be equivalent to a Senior Software Engineer.

We have a well-rounded and tight-knit, distributed team with a healthy mix of engineering skill levels, and are looking to strengthen our team in tackling a variety of challenges. We are looking for a self-driven and motivated engineer who is a strong communicator, works well as a team player, and performs well under tight deadlines.

The candidate would have an opportunity to design and build core gameplay systems, and modernize legacy systems, working primarily in a PHP based technology stack. The candidate will also have the opportunity to create web-based tools for operating the game, working with a PHP and React based technology stack.

The ideal candidate will have strong software design skills, capable of owning feature work throughout the entire development pipeline of design, architecture, development, testing, release and monitoring. The candidate can write clean code and automated tests; can provide scalable solutions in a distributed environment; and has at least three years of experience working on mobile games or live service software.

What You'll Do:

• Help to architect and develop gameplay features, working alongside client side team members
• Responsible for scoping and estimating tasks
• Dive into the internals of existing systems to extend them as-needed
• Develop and integrate new technologies & SDKs
• Help to develop tools for content creators, product managers, and live-ops managers
• Help support and triage deployments and live-ops issues using tools such as Splunk or DataDog
• Mentor other engineers in core language and software development best practices

What You Bring:

• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent education / work experience
• 5+ Years industry experience as a Software Developer
• Strong working knowledge in PHP, or another Object Oriented language such as C#, Java, or C++
• Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software development methodologies
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a hybrid environment

Bonus Points:

• Experience with common workflow tools like source control (GIT), bug tracking (JIRA), etc.
• Experience in Live Ops situations.
• Experience with front end development tool sets, such as JavaScript, React, HTML.
• Prior game development experience (on shipped titles or live games experience)
• Experience with Unity and C#
• Performance profiling and optimization experience
• Experience with Amazon AWS and related technologies

The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $98,400 and $145,620 per year.

However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
