The Principal Security Architect will oversee system design, security capability development, solution incubation, and rapid prototyping. This role involves close collaboration with engineering teams, product management, field teams, customers, and the Azure organization. Responsibilities include partnering with engineering to improve cloud solution security, collaborating on cross-company initiatives, providing security vision and leadership, reducing risk, and serving as a go-to technical expert. The ideal candidate will have experience in cloud architecture, software development, and possess an active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.

Our group is responsible for providing organizations with the best security solution for their cloud environment, allowing for visibility, governance, and protection over their infrastructure, platforms, and application solutions. We are looking to hire a Principal Security Architect - to oversee system design, security capability development, solution incubation, and rapid prototyping. You will work closely with a distributed engineering team, product management, field, and customers in addition to the central Azure organization leveraging the best platforms that Microsoft has to offer.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a cloud architecture role
  • 3+ years of software development experience

Other Requirements:

 

Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

  • The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.  Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
  • Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government clearance.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience

    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience

    • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering teams to understand and improve the security capabilities of cloud solutions and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with Service Teams and organizations to bring to fruition cross-company security initiatives
  • Provide vision and thought leadership for state-of-the-art security of the Microsoft estate
  • Partner with Security Engineering and technical decision makers on reducing risk and creating business value on top of the Microsoft Security platform
  • Serve as a go-to technical expert in the security space working with other security organizations in Microsoft
  • Assist engineering teams in resolving complex technical problems and when needed, engage hands-on with the building, operations and security of services, systems and applications
