Summary

As a Director of Software Engineering and departmental site lead in Tel Aviv for PayPal’s Blockchain, Crypto, and Digital Currencies (BCDC) unit, you will design and build a robust platform to support PayPal’s cryptocurrency products and drive innovation in digital assets. You'll oversee engineering teams responsible for designing, building, and supporting the issuance, custody, exchange, and management of digital tokens. Responsibilities include managing and developing engineering talent, leading development of core on-chain capabilities, maintaining the BCDC portfolio management system, operating and enhancing GCP-based DevOps infrastructure, ensuring security and compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

• PayPal's Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and Digital Currencies team is responsible for PayPal's industry-leading digital assets offerings, including functionality that allows consumers and merchants to participate in the digital assets ecosystem and PYUSD, the first dollar denominated stablecoin offered by a regulated financial institution.

As a director of software engineering and departmental site lead in Tel Aviv for PayPal’s Blockchain, Crypto, and Digital Currencies (BCDC) unit, you will help design and build a robust platform and technology infrastructure to support PayPal’s existing cryptocurrency products, as well as drive new innovation in digital assets and tokens.  

You will leverage your experience to oversee engineering teams responsible for designing, building, and partnering to support the issuance, custody, exchange, and management of digital tokens at Internet scale across a variety of blockchains and protocols.  You will work with a cross-functional team and across multiple organizations to deliver secure, highly available, high throughput systems that realize the promise of cryptocurrencies and digital tokens to create a more accessible, efficient, and inclusive way to perform commerce.

Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  • Managing, hiring, and developing talent for a team of engineers, architects, and team leads spanning a variety of experience levels
  • Leading development of core capabilities that underpin on-chain interactions between PayPal’s systems and public blockchain networks, including systems and processes for asset custody, token transfer, and key management
  • Maintaining and strengthening BCDC’s portfolio management system that is responsible for maintaining balances, cost basis, purchase lots, and holds for all of PayPal’s digital asset customers globally.
  • Operating and enhancing BCDC’s GCP-based DevOps infrastructure, including cloud deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling
  • Ensuring that PayPal’s digital asset systems meet the highest standards for security and compliance, including the creation and maintenance of robust internal documentation and processes.
  • Working with partners to integrate and extend digital asset functionality to address PayPal’s use cases and audiences
  • Providing technical and thought leadership to product, engineering, and business leaders to further the development of an innovative, inclusive approach to digital assets
  • Participating as BCDC’s representative and site lead to PayPal’s cross-functional Tel Aviv leadership team to foster greater collaboration across our Israeli teams and enhance employee satisfaction and productivity.
  • Representing BCDC and PayPal as needed to external stakeholders including potential customers, regulators, media, research institutions and industry groups in meetings and at conferences.

Qualifications 

  • Experience in the development of large-scale enterprise platforms and products from conception to delivery
  • Knowledge of and experience in creating highly available, highly secure systems that can scale to accommodate thousands of transactions per second
  • In-depth knowledge or and experience with blockchain and cryptocurrency and digital asset platforms, protocols, and technologies
  • Knowledge of and experience with public cloud technologies and deployments.  Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus 
  • Demonstrated knowledge at depth in technologies and practices to protect users, systems, and data.
  • Demonstrated understanding of system development life cycle, dynamics of software development programs, practices, and methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultural environments, professional experience, and expertise
  • Ability to estimate resourcing and costs, supporting business cases, and high-level program plans
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Payments and e-commerce experience is a plus
