The Director, Engineering (Plush & Games) at Spin Master will lead the engineering function in Asia for Plush and Games products. Responsibilities include leading project engineering from design and development to production start; staying updated on market trends and applying new technologies; bridging communication between North America and Asia offices; supporting sourcing diversification; leading cost reduction initiatives; collaborating with the quality team; managing suppliers; and providing strategic direction and leadership to the team. The role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as expertise in plush toy development and manufacturing.

Job Description:

As part of the Asia Operations team, you will be reporting directly to VP, Asia Engineering and leading the engineering function in Asia for Plush and Games products for our Spin Master brands.

What will you work on?

  • Lead project engineering activities from design, product development, tooling debug and vendor management to Production Start (PS) and hence the ramp up to support shipment. 

  • Keep abreast of market developments in terms of new concept, material and technology in order to apply to new designs and existing products and improve production techniques to achieve optimal engineering design and product cost. Communicate and bridge the gap between our North America and Asia offices to resolve the projects quality and performance issues. 

  • Support the sourcing diversification road map to cope with the company strategy. Heavily involved in sourcing and costing for major project development projects. 

  • Lead the team to apply DFA and DFM at early product development to make sure product cost remains competitive in the market. 

  • Collaborate with Quality team for reducing the defect rate and customer complaints per company set goal and focus on RCCP on issues raised. 

  • Managing critical and high impact items as needed, assist the team to prioritize on high impact items. 

  • Responsible for suppliers’ management and development, and drive for continuous improvement in suppliers’ technique and capability to achieve cost reduction and optimal productivity level

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the team.

  • Develop people and have the team adapts the “best practice” in the industry. 

  • Review team competence regularly and identify staff development plan for key staff, provide coaching and training to the overall teams. 

  • Perform and complete other additional project, duties, and assignments as required and/or by request.


What are your skills and experience?

  • Degree in Electronic / Electrical / Mechanical / Manufacturing or related disciplines, master’s degree is preferred.

  • At least 5 years of management experience in leading an effective team, preferably in buying office of MNC environment.

  • Experience in plush toys product development and manufacturing process is highly preferred.

  • Knowledgeable in the toy industry standard and proven track record in product cost reduction and containment.

  • Familiar with the licensed product and approval process.

  • Able to transform vision into clear strategy, goal and objectives. 

  • Self-motivated with good sense of responsibility and strong leadership skills coupled with the ability to get hands on when required without getting drawn into the day-to-day tasks. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to build strong internal partnerships and create a culture of collaboration and teamwork.

  • Experience identifying, establishing and maintaining strong external partnerships with global vendors and leveraging them to deliver on development projects.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and Chinese
