Medscape, a division of WebMD, develops and hosts physician portals and related mobile applications that make it easier for physicians and healthcare professionals to access clinical reference sources, stay abreast of the latest clinical information, learn about new treatment options, earn continuing medical education credits and communicate with peers.

Position Summary
WebMD/Medscape seeks a Deputy Director to help oversee and manage editorial operations, ensuring timely and high-quality content.
This role involves management of a team of writers and editors, and effective coordination with other departments.  The Deputy Director will have strong news judgment, journalistic experience. This role will require the leveraging of analytics, AI, and other technology to assist editors and writers in developing content that grows engagement across audience segments and helps drive business results.  
The ideal candidate has strong leadership abilities, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a solid understanding and background in medicine and science.  Creativity, unconventional thinking, news and judgment, and a sense of performance analytics are critical to the success of this position. The Deputy Director will also be adept at managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and adapting to changing priorities and trends.
This role is based in Atlanta or Newark, New Jersey, and reports to the Executive Director, Editorial.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital journalism or web production, preferably in a newsroom environment.
  • Experience successfully managing teams of writers, editors and/or content developers.
  • Proficiency with content management systems (CMS) 
  • Strong understanding of SEO principles and best practices.
  • Experience with multimedia production and integration.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Executive Director, prioritize the daily news product across professional and consumer audiences.
  • Oversee the daily content to ensure it includes an effective mix of explanatory, enterprise, news, and clinical summary content.
  • Work with specialty editors to select clinical studies that can be submitted to an AI tool. 
  • Spearhead effective use of data analytics among editors to better inform content decisions; host regular meetings and lead discussions of content performance.
  • Assist in editing news and feature content when necessary and provide feedback to editors with a goal of ensuring high-quality content. 
  • Work with social/marketing to promote content and build daily news promotion schedules on social platforms. 
  • Coordinate with writer/editor on FDA approval stories for consumer and professional audiences.
