Job Description

As a Core Tech Programmer, you will work on the core technology that enables Star Citizen's large-scale dynamic universe. You will join the team that is building our high-fidelity realtime 3D engine (StarEngine) and you will work and interact with designer, artists, and engineers from other disciplines such as physics, animation, and gameplay. Design and implement well-engineered, reliable, maintainable, and bug-free code. Collaborate with team members to develop various (engine-) systems. Keep up to date on state-of-the-art software engineering methods, practices, and technologies.
Must have:
  • Comfortable working with C++ in a large, shared codebase.
  • Have a good knowledge of 3D mathematics.
  • Have experience with programming game features and systems.
  • A passion for making and playing games.
  • Work well in a co-located yet collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies

As a Core Tech Programmer, you will work on the core technology that enables Star Citizen’s large-scale dynamic universe. Collaborating with industry veterans, you will improve our Entity and Object Container System which enables other teams develop game systems, features and content for Star Citizen and Squadron 42.

You will join the team that is building our high-fidelity realtime 3D engine (StarEngine) and you will work and interact with designer, artists, and engineers from other disciplines such as physics, animation, and gameplay.

Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations. We’re currently developing Star Citizen, a record-breaking multiplayer online space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure set in the same universe. What do our Core Tech Programmers do?

  • Design and implement well-engineered, reliable, maintainable, and bug-free code.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop various (engine-) systems.Keep up to date on state-of-the-art software engineering methods, practices, and technologies.
  • Research and identify technical and developmental risks and obstacles and apply latest technologies and solutions to overcome them.
  • Working with QA, effectively track, diagnose and solve a variety of complex issues.

About The Company

Cloud Imperium Games is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA experiences outside the established publisher system, founded by Chris Roberts, creator of the best selling Wing Commander and Freelancer series, Cloud Imperium is currently developing Star Citizen, a record-shattering crowd funded title that combines classic space sim gameplay with Hollywood-caliber visuals.


Cloud Imperium aims to pave new ground in game development by sharing the process with the players.
