Job Description

The CG Supervisor at Flying Bark Productions will oversee the technical aspects of an animated feature film. Responsibilities include assessing creative briefs, defining technical requirements (equipment, software, workflows), collaborating with supervisors, ensuring creative consistency with the director's vision, maintaining efficient workflows with the Pipeline team, managing artists and TDs, monitoring schedules, and identifying potential risks. The role requires strong technical and creative skills, excellent communication and leadership abilities, and experience with Katana. The successful candidate will also be involved in company assessments, decision-making processes for new projects and software, and contribute to problem-solving and team building.

Flying Bark Productions is working on exciting projects such as the recently announced Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, Marvel Studios’ What If…?, Disney Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.

We are looking for a CG Supervisor who will work closely with the VFX Supervisor, pipeline TDs and department supervisors to oversee the technical requirements of an exciting animated feature film we're producing. They will have sound knowledge of all technical and creative aspects of production and be involved in the assessment of everything from equipment, recruitment, workflows and processes as well as the technical and creative breakdown of the scope of work. 


About you:

  • Recent experience as a CG Supervisor working on high end Animation or VFX, with previous experience in assets or lookdev departments;
  • Ability to assess creative briefs and define limitations for the Program and make appropriate solutions or alternatives;
  • Assess the technical requirements for the Program and make clear plans for equipment, software, data storage and backup, pipeline, crew and schedule in collaboration with the appropriate supervisors;
  • Work with the VFX Supervisor to ensure the creative look of the Program is maintained in line with the Director’s vision;
  • Work closely with the Pipeline team and Head of CG to brief and maintain efficient and automated workflows and processes, taking into consideration the Company’s main pipeline;
  • Stay on top of priority for Pipeline development and support tasks, ensuring the Program’s schedule and ramp up are front of mind when dealing with limited development resources;
  • Ensure the final Program is delivered to the correct technical specifications set-out by the Client  and in line with the creative expectations of the Director and Producer;
  • Implement efficient communication systems, workflow, file systems and production tracking in line with budget and schedule requirements;
  • Manage and support artists and TDs through formal and timely communication;
  • Keep oversight of the production schedules for the Program/s and identify all potential delays, disruptions or other perceived risks to the Company;
  • Attend overseas business trips as reasonably required by the Company;
  • Keep up to date on new technologies, putting in weekly on-box time for research and development;
  • When requested, be involved in company assessment and decision making of new projects; new software and systems and their implementation; brainstorming sessions that require technical and creative input to find solutions;
  • Encourage open communication within the crew and a positive, solutions focused approach to problem solving throughout production;
  • Display superior team leadership skills including, diplomacy, patience, solutions focused thinking, calm under pressure, excellent time management and conflict management skills;
  • Knowledge and previous experience using Katana preferred.
