ByteDance's Pico division seeks a Vision Scientist to apply knowledge of the human visual system to specify image quality in displays and cameras. Responsibilities include designing hardware architectures (camera systems, SoC data pipelines), collaborating on AI algorithms and hardware, researching retina-level image resolution, translating research findings into product specifications, and staying current on advancements in vision science. The role requires expertise in neuroscience, psychology, and computer science to develop devices interfacing with human vision. Must have:
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Computer Science, or Engineering

About Team: - Founded in April 2015, Pico is a leading XR company with independent innovation and R&D capabilities, focusing on XR all-in-one technology. Pico is committed to offering immersive and interactive XR experiences to our customers, including providing tailor-made solutions for our enterprise clients in the fields of education and healthcare. - As a world-renowned VR/AR brand with independent innovation and R&D capabilities, Pico has been at the forefront of the consumer electronic market. We have teams in Northern America, Europe, Japan and South Korea. We are looking for a skilled and creative hardware product manager to join us to build our VR/AR new product. Responsibilities: - Apply your knowledge of the human visual system to set specifications for image quality in displays, cameras, and other visual technologies. -Develop and design hardware architectures, including camera systems and SoC data pipelines, informed by an understanding of biological vision systems. -Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in AI algorithms and hardware designs based on human visual perception. -Research and develop solutions based on vision science, focusing on retina-level image resolution and other physiological aspects of the human vision system. -Utilize expertise in neuroscience, psychology, and computer science to contribute to the development of devices that interface with or mimic human vision. -Translate research findings from human vision science into actionable specifications for product and hardware design. -Stay current with the latest advancements in vision science, computer vision, and related fields.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: - PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as Neuroscience, Computer Science, or Engineering. - Deep understanding of the mechanisms of the human visual system, including retinal processing, brain signal interpretation, and how biological vision systems operate. - Experience in designing or engineering hardware for vision systems (e.g., camera systems, AI hardware, or SoC data pipelines). - Familiarity with AI algorithms and their application in vision-related technologies. - Proven ability to bridge multiple disciplines, including neuroscience, psychology, and computer science, to innovate and drive new technologies. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in interdisciplinary research that combines neuroscience and computer science, particularly in the context of vision science and AI development. - Familiarity with human perception models and how these can inform display and imaging technologies Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and influence product development. Job Information
【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $224000 - $560000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
