Job Description

As a Technical Program Manager at Google Cloud Platform (GCP), you will leverage your expertise in data center design and engineering to lead complex projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing data center floor layouts, designing cable tray systems, calculating power requirements, and collaborating with electrical engineers. You'll work across multiple teams and time zones, building strong stakeholder relationships and influencing decision-making. Leading projects of varying sizes and scopes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and driving the technical direction of programs are key aspects of this role. On-time delivery is paramount, requiring a consistent track record of delivering server hall designs that meet evolving business objectives.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years in program/technical project management
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Design Documents
  • Data center equipment/environment experience
  • Manage vendor relationships & large-scale projects
Good to have:
  • Experience managing large-scale construction projects internationally

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program or technical project management.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Design Documents.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with data center equipment/environments (including core and shell), with an understanding of server floor equipment layout including telecom and IT rack requirements.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, with an understanding of standard practices in the design and construction industry.
  • Experience managing large-scale construction projects, within an international working environment.

In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise in data center design and engineering to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from inception to completion. You collaborate on plan requirements, mitigate risks, manage project schedules, and ensure clear communication throughout the project life-cycle. You will be explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs with internal and external engineers. On time delivery is paramount and you will seek to sustain a consistent track record of delivering server hall design that meets the fluid objectives of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize the physical layout of data center floors, ensuring efficient use of space and resources. This includes placement of server racks, network equipment, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and cooling systems.
  • Design cable tray systems to support data and power cabling for server racks and other equipment. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for cable management.
  • Calculate power requirements for server racks and other equipment, taking into account redundancy and future growth. Collaborate with electrical engineers to design power distribution systems that meet these requirements.
  • Work closely with multiple teams across different time zones. Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization, influence decision-making
  • Lead projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes, and driving the technical directions of the programs.
