Job Description

Google seeks a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Cloud HPC Machine Learning Networking. Responsibilities include identifying networking opportunities to enhance machine learning pipelines (training and inference), optimizing HPC and ML performance on GCP infrastructure (from kernel optimization to application level), and building solutions leveraging GCP's new hardware. This role requires strong expertise in C, machine learning, networking protocols, and ideally C++, device drivers, and RDMA. The ideal candidate will have experience leading technical teams and working in complex organizational structures.
Must have:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with C language, Machine Learning, and Networking Protocols.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with C++, Device Drivers, Networking, High Performance Computing, and Remote Direct Memory Access.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for networking to add value to the machine learning pipeline, both training and inference, and other HPC applications.
  • Lead efforts optimizing High Performance Computing (HPC) and Machine Learning (Ml) performance on Google Cloud platforms (GCP's) infrastructure. This spans a wide range, from kernel optimization, user-space communication libraries, like lib-fabric, all the way to customer's HPC and machine learning applications.
  • Build up solutions on Google Cloud Platforms (GCP's) new hardware capabilities.
