Pixar seeks a Software Engineer to craft tools for post-production. You'll build a robust pipeline, write reliable code, and collaborate with users. Experience with Python, Linux, and web technologies is essential. Knowledge of post-production pipelines is preferred.
Our Post Production Engineering team crafts software to support all of Pixar's post production pipeline, including color grading, localization, packaging, delivery, and media asset archiving. Together with our internal clients, we've built a sophisticated production pipeline, and our tools can generate terabytes of new media in a single day. Our software touches every Pixar project (feature films, shorts, series, and promotional material) and every version (Digital Cinema, Blu-ray/UHD, 3D, International). As technology advancements like immersive sound formats, 4K stereo, and direct view/emmissive displays transform our industry, we are looking for engineers who are passionate about tackling new problems.

You are a versatile software engineer capable of handling everything from design and development to testing and support. You are dedicated to writing reliable and maintainable code, in both a new and legacy codebase. You are happiest working directly with the people who use your tools and strive to understand their workflow and needs. You have experience with image and video processing tools and technologies. You are hard-working, flexible, and an excellent communicator. You are an enthusiastic team member, who wants to contribute your engineering skills to support film production at Pixar. Does this sound like you? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Studio Mastering and Operations team during feature film deliveries

  • Build a robust yet flexible software pipeline to allow our production users to quickly and accurately guide our films through the post production process

  • Develop and maintain our software architecture, applying strong principles for code quality and maintainability

  • Write automated tests and user documentation

  • Collaborate with our users to craft products and provide ongoing support as new requirements and deliverables arise

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree program

  • 3+ years working in a professional setting

  • Experience with Python, Linux, and web technologies

  • Strong software engineering skills, including experience with git, code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate on a team

  • Proven ability to work with both technical and non-technical software users

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of post production pipelines and deliverables

  • Familiarity with video and image transcoding, generating and manipulating editorial timelines, and compositing workflows

  • Practical experience with event-driven architecture
