Job Description

As a Software Engineer II in the Identity Engineering organization, you'll contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of microservices and lambdas in a multi-region cloud environment. You'll collaborate with your squad, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include promoting Agile methodologies, contributing to technical decisions, and ensuring the security of consumer-facing APIs. The role involves working with high-traffic, globally replicated systems for Disney properties like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

The Commerce, Growth & Identity (CGI) team is dedicated to three business-critical areas at Disney that will help transform its media business. They create seamless user experiences for consumers who can choose from a wide range of subscription plans, enabling more choice and flexibility. The CGI team is also focused on building innovative and cutting-edge capabilities that will drive subscriptions, engagement, and monetization across Disney’s streaming and digital products.

As a Software Engineer within the Identity Engineering organization, you will be responsible for writing and reviewing code, contributing to technical decisions, and collaborating with engineers in your squad.

You will be empowered to contribute to technical and architectural decisions, and to influence the roadmap for your squad, working in partnership with your local leader, your squad, and your peers across Product, Project Management and Engineering.

You will contribute to and be part of an engaging, dynamic and inclusive engineering organization, grounded in scrum and agile practices, CI/CD, great collaboration, functional programming and motivated by a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.


Identity Engineering delivers Consumer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) capabilities across The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) including but not limited to: D+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Parks. Identity Engineering squads build and run high-traffic and globally replicated systems which form an integral and visible part of every user’s journey at Disney properties.

The Security Services squad are responsible for making sure consumer-facing application programming interfaces (APIs) are kept secure by making real-time decisions to block malicious traffic using various mechanisms including but not limited to: traffic shaping and completely automated public turing tests to tell computers and humans apart (CAPTCHA) challenges.

What You Will Do

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of stateful microservices and lambdas in a multi-region cloud environment.
  • Promote and support Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and Scrumban by actively participating in regular ceremonies such as stand-up, retrospectives and sprint planning.
  • Collaborate with your squad, Product Managers, Designers, QA, Operations, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and articulate technical decisions and outcomes.

What You Will Bring

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years related work experience.
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following Java Virtual Machine (JVM) languages: Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following cloud providers: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Compute (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Scala programming language and popular frameworks such as: Cats, Cats Effect, ZIO, and http4s.
  • Familiarity with both object oriented programming (OOP) and functional programming (FP) best practices.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Terraform, and infrastructure as code (IaC) best practices.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

The hiring range for this position in New York is $118,000-$158,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
