Job Description

The Senior VFX Artist will collaborate with artists, designers, and engineers to create incredible gameplay, magical powers, and transformations based on Disney's characters and worlds. Responsibilities include adding life and movement to worlds using atmospherics and weather effects in Unreal 5 and Niagara. The role requires implementing, integrating, and troubleshooting VFX, iterating on assets, and serving as a key team member. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of 3D graphics, shaders, particle systems, and game design, along with proficiency in Maya, Substance, and Photoshop. The position demands creative problem-solving and a collaborative spirit within a positive team culture.
Must have:
  • 5+ years game dev experience (3+ as VFX Artist)
  • Excellent real-time VFX portfolio
  • Expertise in 3D graphics, shaders, particles
  • Strong VFX animation & timing skills
  • Proficiency in Maya, Substance, Photoshop
  • Unreal 5 and Niagara experience preferred
Good to have:
  • Houdini or other VFX simulation tools
  • Bachelor's degree in Art/Design

Disney Digital Entertainment, a division of Disney Experiences, is embarking on a mission to create the ‘digital front door’ for The Walt Disney Company, bringing all of the magic of Disney together into a new interactive universe.

We are building an expert development team that will be building a groundbreaking game experience that will herald the next generation of Disney to the world. Working with top-class industry talent, this role is perfect for the seasoned transformative Senior VFX Artist looking to create something epic - collaborating with an incredible group of game developers focusing on individual experiences to build a wonderfully rich and cohesive product that is truly “Disney”.

We are looking for a uniquely talented Senior VFX Artist to join us on a daring and exciting new project. If you are an imaginative creator with superb real time visual effects skills, and have a love of Disney/Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel properties, you’ll want to check out this opportunity!

The Senior VFX Artist will report to the Director, Art.

This is a Full-Time role.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with artists, designers, and engineers to visualize incredible gameplay, magical powers, and amazing transformations based on Disney’s robust portfolio of characters and worlds including Disney/Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

  • Add life, movement and color to our worlds though atmospherics, weather and environmental effects created in Unreal 5, Niagara and other tools.

  • Technically implement, integrate, troubleshoot, and ensure the visual fidelity and performance of VFX in game.

  • Iterate on game assets with fellow artists via paint overs, studies and group critiques.

  • Serve as a key member of a growing game development team at Disney.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 5 plus years of game development experience, including holding a position of VFX Artist for at least 3 years.

  • Portfolio demonstrating consistently excellent, eye-catching real time VFX you’ve created for games. 

  • Extensive understanding of 3D graphics, shaders, particles systems, physics, ribbons, etc. 

  • Excellent sense of VFX movement, animation, timing, impact and anticipation. 

  • Ability to visualize effects with or without concept art, and the ability to create VFX textures, materials and geometry from scratch, matching a broad range of styles. 

  • Strong game design awareness and ability to prototype, create and refine effects that support and communicate gameplay.

  • Technical aptitude and high level of comfort working with complex, node-based systems, scripts and tools.

  • Expert level proficiency with Maya, Substance, Photoshop and/or equivalent 3D and 2D software.

  • Enjoy creative problem-solving and building something new and innovative.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Unreal 5 and Niagara in a production environment preferred.

  • Proficiency with Houdini and/or other VFX simulation tools a plus.

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Art and/or Design or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The hiring range for this remote position is $118,900 to $183,400 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
