Job Description

As a Senior Technical Artist, you'll collaborate with the Art team to advance cutting-edge visuals, troubleshoot issues, provide technical guidance, and define art workflows and pipelines. Working with Technical Art Direction and Production, you'll ensure timely delivery to required standards, enhancing game quality. Key responsibilities include defining and maintaining art workflows, communicating pipelines, shader research and development, guiding artists, suggesting new technologies, troubleshooting with engineers, advising on performance constraints, and defining asset budgets. The role requires expert knowledge of game engines, 3D modeling tools (3ds Max, Maya, ZBrush), art pipelines, and at least one programming language (Python, C++).

  • 4+ years experience as Technical Artist

Job Details

As a Senior Technical Artist, you will be working alongside a talented Art team driving forwards cutting-edge visuals, investigating and fixing various issues, providing technical guidance, and defining art workflow and pipelines.

Working closely with Technical Art Direction and the Production team, you will ensure that your work is delivered on time and to the standards required, helping to increase the quality of the games.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Art Director, Technical Director and Art teams to define and maintain art  workflows.
  • Clearly communicate and document art production pipelines.
  • Shader research and development.
  • Provide guidance to artists encouraging best working practices and strong asset organisation.
  • Proactively provide suggestions on how to utilise new technologies and tools and implement them into our workflow.
  •  Work with engineers to troubleshoot issues and find solutions to help further enhance our art pipeline.
  • Provide clear guidance on technical performance constraints and help define asset budgets.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of game engines and the technical constraints and challenges of game development.
  • Significant experience with 3D modelling tools such as 3ds Max, Maya, or ZBrush, in a video game environment.
  • Excellent technical understanding of art pipelines, memory and rendering budgets.
  • Excellent communication skills, and comfortable working across multiple teams.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language (such as Python, C++).
  • Understanding of modern procedural asset creation techniques (Scanning, Marvellous).
  • Strong interest in the latest advancements in video game graphics and visual trends.
  • 4 years minimum experience as Technical Artist in the games industry.
