As a Senior 2D Concept Artist at PlayQ, you'll be instrumental in shaping the visual style of Treasure Party, a successful match-3 adventure game. Responsibilities include designing and refining 2D concepts for environments, characters, props, and icons, ensuring high-quality art that aligns with the game's visual strategy and player experience. You'll collaborate with 3D artists, providing guidance and ensuring visual consistency. The role requires strong creative problem-solving, adaptation to feedback, and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. You'll contribute directly to the game's artistic appeal and market success, enhancing the player experience in a fun and immersive way.

This is a high-impact role where you will be responsible for creating imaginative environments, characters, props, and icons that support a unique match-3 adventure game that’s capturing the hearts of millions. You’ll work closely with the Art Director and other team members to bring your ideas to life, contributing directly to the game’s aesthetic and player engagement.

This role offers the chance to make a tangible impact on the visual storytelling of an established game, collaborating with a team that values creative excellence. Your work will directly contribute to the visual direction, ensuring every concept enhances the player experience in a fun, immersive, and visually appealing way.

Your Impact:

  • Concept Development: Design and refine 2D concepts for whimsical environments, props, characters, and icons that align with our game’s visual strategy and enhance the overall player experience.
  • Artistic Excellence: Deliver high-quality concept art that meets visual benchmarks, timelines, and project goals, contributing to the game’s artistic appeal and market success.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with 3D artists to ensure smooth translation of 2D concepts into final 3D models and renders, providing guidance and adjustments to achieve visual consistency.
  • Visual Refinement: Enhance pre-renders with final touches like color, lighting and additional details to deliver game assets that align with the creative vision.
  • Creative Problem Solving: Address artistic challenges with innovative solutions, iterating on concepts based on feedback from the Art Director and other stakeholders to maintain high visual standards.
  • Adaptation and Iteration: Stay responsive to evolving project needs, refining your artistic processes and integrating feedback to continuously improve concept art.

What you'll bring to the team: 

  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience as a concept artist, with a portfolio showcasing your ability to create compelling 2D art that enhances player experience and engagement.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), with a demonstrated ability to produce stylized, mass-market appeal art for casual mobile games.
  • Creative Aptitude: Strong creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt your style based on art direction and feedback, always delivering high-quality visual assets.
  • Artistic Insight: Deep understanding of art direction, composition, color theory, and casual game aesthetics, which you apply when creating immersive 2D concepts.
  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with the project’s creative vision and contributing to a positive and efficient work environment.

Bonus Points:

  • Knowledge of Unity Game Engine
  • Experience with 3D software
  • Prior experience creating 2D art for mobile games, particularly in the casual genre

At PlayQ, we leverage competitive benchmarking data when setting each role’s base pay range. Individual base salary will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, scope of role, business need and geographic location.

The estimated base pay range in the US for this role is listed below.

$50,000-$90,000 USD

  • In-office location: Santa Monica, CA
  • This role is open to remote employees located in select US states including California, Washington, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York and Georgia.
  • This role is offered as a full time position.
