Summary

As a Network Operations Engineer at PlayStation, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing a large, global network. Daily tasks involve handling incidents, changes, and maintenance activities, utilizing network analysis tools to monitor performance and identify issues. You'll contribute to developing policies and procedures, perform scheduled maintenance (including weekends), and participate in regional shifts for 24/7 coverage. The role requires strong network fundamentals (TCP/IP, Ethernet, IP Addressing/Subnetting, VLANs) and familiarity with service provider IGP implementations. On-call rotation during weekends is required (up to 12 hours/day).
Must have:

  • Daily operations, incident handling, and maintenance
  • Policy and procedure development
Good to have:
  • ISIS, MPLS, IPv6, L2/L3 VPN services
  • MP-BGP routing policy
  • Cluster networking/CLOS fabrics
  • Juniper MX, QFX, SRX, EX series platforms
  • Load balancer topologies
  • Optical media and transport systems
  • Linux system administration
  • Scripting languages (Python, Ruby, etc.)

Department overview:

As a member of the Network Operations Team, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing our network while actively contributing to its growth, automation, and increasing sophistication. As a junior engineer you will have the opportunity to learn from the best to grow your skill set, with plenty of opportunities to provide feedback on architecture, automation, operations, or any other areas that interest you

What you'll be doing:

  • Perform daily operations for a large, global network, including handling incidents, changes, and maintenance activities.
  • Use network analysis tools (e.g., sFlow, IPFIX, telemetry) to monitor network performance, identify issues, and implement improvements.
  • Participate in developing policies, procedures and technical reports associated with operating and maintaining the global network.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance activities, including weekends as needed
  • Participate in regional shifts to ensure 24-hour network coverage within a 2-office
  • model.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation during weekends (up to 12-hour per day).

What we're looking for:

  • Strong understanding of network fundamentals (e.g. TCP/IP, Ethernet, IP Addressing/Subnetting, VLANs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with service provider IGP implementations
  • Familiarity with core backbone routers, layer 2 and layer 3 switches
  • Familiarity using a distributed version control system (git)

Desirable Experience:

  • Familiarity with ISIS, MPLS, IPv6, and L2/L3 VPN services
  • Familiarity with MP-BGP routing policy in a global network environment.
  • Familiarity with cluster networking/CLOS fabrics
  • Familiarity with router firewall policies
  • Familiarity with Juniper MX , QFX, SRX, and EX series platforms.
  • Familiarity working in load balancer topologies
  • Familiarity with optical media and optical transport systems.
  • Familiarity working in a globally distributed team and/or with IT Service
  • Management (e.g. ITIL)
  • Familiarity with Linux system administration
  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Python, Ruby or other languages such as
  • Java, JavaScript, Go, etc
