Job Description

Tesla's Berlin office seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer for its Seating Engineering Department. Responsibilities encompass the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to end-of-life management and problem-solving for existing seating systems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, utilizing expertise in structural components (stampings, welding, etc.), and leveraging engineering principles to exceed automotive industry safety and usability standards. The successful candidate will manage product attributes (safety, comfort, cost, etc.), conduct testing and simulations, create 3D models and 2D drawings, and collaborate with external organizations. Experience in automotive seating is preferred but not required.
Must have:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Exceptional design engineering abilities
  • Multidisciplinary engineering interest
  • Hands-on design and build experience

The essence of your job would be to exceed the automotive industry expectations for safety and usability of the Seating systems always based on engineering first principles while employing the Design Engineering process which includes the following:

  • Problem understanding and definition & target setting
  • Concept generation and evaluation & product strategy and architecture planning
  • Negotiation, balancing and management of product attributes including safety, functionality, comfort, aesthetics, cost, mass, schedule, sustainability
  • Validation and optimization through including prototype making, physical testing, CAE simulations, design reviews
  • 3D model and 2D drawing creation, Bill of Materials creation and detail design including datum & fixation strategy, GD&T, DFM
