Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Role

Netflix is building the world’s leading entertainment platform, offering great films, series, games and live events that push the boundaries of storytelling and delight members of all ages and tastes across the world. Our team, Product Creative Studio, is responsible for promotional creative assets on Netflix. We are part of the larger Product Discovery & Promotion team.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a seasoned Managing Editor, Creative Writing Strategy to join our PCS Live team. The ideal candidate is an expert in crafting authentic and compelling textual evidence. Additionally skillful navigation of tech, media and editorial operations is required. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working both on highly bespoke tentpole projects (being very hands-on with crafting the narrative) and also working to oversee production at scale (having worked with external vendors.)

Responsibilities

You’ll oversee the scaled production of clear, engaging and accurate copy for our Live events (titles) on Netflix — this will be through a combination of working with partners in product development and engineering, writers and editors (both internal and external), localization, audio/visual media, and content design.

You’ll apply your expertise and passion to cross-functional innovation projects, collaborating with visual media, analysis, localization, design and product teams. Since we are part of a distributed team, you’ll use Slack, Google Workspace, email and other digital tools to communicate about assignments, projects and publishing deadlines.

As Managing Editor, it is your job to ensure that our initiatives are adequately resourced with what they need. You’ll give context to our engineering teams as they build tools to improve our workflow. You’ll also be a thought partner / leader on innovative programs and implement their findings. While this is not a people manager role, previous management experience will set you up for success.

You'll project manage creative and tactical synopses and textual evidence for single live events, and also for large catalog fulfillment. This work includes collaboration on, and enforcement of, copy QC guidelines. In cases where copy assets will be largely sourced by partners, this role will ensure they are informed by Netflix style guides and will provide a QC layer. Standards & Practices will collaborate on the guidelines.

The Managing Editor will establish fulfillment workflows and schedule deliverables, in consultation with localization and other xfn partners. You’ll advocate with engineering to support evolving needs of the team (eg batch uploads.) You will own and/or assign synopsis and text evidence assignments on product, oversee fulfillment and strategy alignment and socialize copy with partners where needed. Will include regular collaboration with Content Design, Messaging, Strategists, Creatives, Product Metadata & Ratings, Merchandising and Event Producers.

What Will Help You Succeed

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills. You must have multiple examples of published work in credible media outlets

  • Deep content and cultural knowledge about media, including current trends in entertainment. Simply put, you’re a superfan who keeps up with entertainment, particularly Live events — and you can help Netflix members around the globe get excited about our offering

  • Being a systems thinker even if the output does not call for creative system work

  • Experience managing writing teams. Our source copy is written in English, so you must have the professional authority to enforce standards among a team of high-performing writers. Whether the assignment at hand is a trailer script for a tentpole event, a synopsis for a recurring series or a thoughtful story to tell partners about the member journey we’re forming, you understand that different types of content should have copy tailored to their respective tone and audience

  • Embrace and implement emerging technologies to support creative excellence

  • Align on scope and resource planning with your Creative Strategy, Creative Development and Production Planning partners

  • Have no hesitation in managing difficult conversations with cross-functional partners while maintaining a collaborative dynamic

  • Program management experience. You must be comfortable driving projects with multiple workstreams, creating thorough documentation, and communicating with teams across functions and regions

  • Deep understanding and experience with entertainment markets

  • Experience with managing creative work at scale and working with outsourced/external fulfillment models

  • Expertise in product development and innovation. We’re looking for someone who’s constantly looking for ways to improve the member experience through experimentation and testing, and has experience working with product, design and engineering teams

  • The ability to understand and simplify complex concepts. This role will interact with with technical and creative teams and needs to communicate effectively with both

  • A commitment to our team’s core values, like candid feedback, responsibility, passion and curiosity

  • Ask the right questions… You know quickly what you don’t know and seek to understand more

  • Have a results-focused disposition and be cool and calm under pressure with excellent people skills

  • Thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment, possess a high level of intellectual curiosity, and demonstrate strong judgment in the face of ambiguity

Day-To-Day

  • Copyediting high-profile synopsis suites

  • Uphold creative quality at scale by assessing published copy through scorecards and in-depth evaluations

  • Leverage scaling methods to forecast and direct assignment allocation, partnering closely with team leads to deliver tasks on time

  • Partner on key innovation initiatives and implement with internal and external partners

  • Identify specific workflow issues and proactively address discrepancies

  • People management experience

  • Fluent in multiple languages

  • Experience working with global brands
