Job Description

This role involves architecting, designing, and developing scalable services within a services architecture for a vision-based traffic violation detection system. The engineer will work with ML engineers to scale model deployments, utilize AWS services (PostgreSQL, InfluxDB, API Gateway, Lambda), and write clean, maintainable code in Python and Golang. Responsibilities include gathering requirements, collaborating cross-functionally, working in an agile team, and modeling best practices for software development. The system uses a city's existing fleet and mobile devices to collect real-time data to support traffic law enforcement and achieve Vision Zero safety goals.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field
6+ years industry experience
Deep AWS knowledge (EKS, S3, SQS, RDS, Cognito, Lambda)
DevOps experience (GCP, GitHub, Terraform, Grafana)
Python, C++, Java, or Go proficiency
Strong networking, security, and distributed systems understanding
Terraform experience
Problem-solving and ownership skills
Agile environment experience

Good to have:

Golang experience

Project description

We are utilizing a city's existing fleet and a growing number of mobile devices connected to our network, we collect real-time data that supports the enforcement of traffic laws. We are implementing the first technology provider to create a vision-based solution capable of detecting, understanding, and determine causation of traffic violations, to help cities achieve their Vision Zero safety goals.

Responsibilities

Architect, design, and develop scalable services within our services architecture

Work with ML engineers to help them scale their model deployments

Use cutting edge open source and AWS products (such as PostgreSQL, InfluxDB, AWS API Gateway, or AWS Lambda)

Write clean, reusable, maintainable, and fault tolerant code using Python and Golang

Work cross-functionally to gather requirements, build consensus on approaches, and develop appropriate technical solutions.

Work as part of an agile team, with focus on effective collaboration and communication with other engineers as well as colleagues outside of engineering

Model best practices for software development in the team, and raise the bar on coding standards, code reviews, testing, and production operations.

Skills

Must have

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Vision, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

6+ years of industry experience. Deep knowledge of Amazon's AWS ecosystem at scale, including but not limited to EKS, S3, SQS, RDS, Cognito, Lambda, etc.

Experience with DevOps Tools (like GCP, GitHub, Terraform, Grafana)

Knowledge of Python, C++, Java or Go

Strong understanding of best practices in the areas of Networking, Security, Distributed Compute, Storage, Observability, and Continuous Deployment.

Strong knowledge of infrastructure as a code tooling, such as Terraform.

Ability to analyze trade offs of different solutions, and make effective decisions on build vs. buy.

Active participation in the open source community for the former, and vendor relationship management for the latter.

Proven problem-solving skills; ability to take ownership of issues and driving towards resolution effectively.

Being comfortable in an agile, fast-paced environment; ability to organize chaos and leave things cleaner than you found them.
