Job Description

As an Expert UX Designer at Sledgehammer Games, you'll be a key member of the UIX team, responsible for designing exceptional user experiences across in-game systems and interfaces. Your role spans pre-production to shipping, focusing on crafting polished, player-focused UX systems and interfaces that meet AAA standards. Responsibilities include creating complex UX systems, developing prototypes and documentation, collaborating with artists and engineers, partnering with User Research, taking product ownership of UX features, refining UX development tools, and partnering with Player Analytics. You'll leverage advanced technical skills, design expertise, and attention to detail, acting as a mentor to other designers. The ideal candidate possesses extensive full-stack design experience, expertise in UX tools (Figma, Adobe XD), visual design skills, experience with scripting languages (LUA), and a proven track record in AAA game development.

Your Mission

As an Expert UX Designer, you will be integral to Sledgehammer Games’ UIX team in San Mateo, taking hands-on responsibility for crafting exceptional user experiences across in-game systems and front-end interfaces. From pre-production through to shipping, you will focus on executional excellence, ensuring systems are designed and implemented to the highest AAA standards.

You will bring advanced technical skills, design expertise, and a relentless attention to detail, working-cross discipline to drive the creation of polished, player-focused UX systems and interfaces.

Responsibilities

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Crafting complex user experience systems, flows, menus, and HUD to meet design objectives with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Developing advanced prototypes and detailed documentation to refine design and support the implementation of features.
  • Collaborating with artists and engineers to deliver the best possible user experience while adhering to technical and aesthetic constraints.
  • Partnering with User Research to refine and optimize designs on rigorous testing and player feedback.
  • Taking product ownership role of UX features, driving the end-to-end execution of features, ensuring quality and consistency throughout.
  • Collaborates with Engineers and gets hands-on in execution of systems, screens and features using proprietary tools and high-level scripting languages.
  • Driving the refinement of UX development tools, processes, and pipelines to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Partnering with Player Analytics to refine and optimize live systems based on player feedback and behavior.
  • A role model for UX excellent in the team, providing hard-skills mentorship to more junior/mid/senior-level designers.

Player Profile

  • Expert of creating UX for games with extensive full-stack design experience, from concept through in-engine execution.
  • Expert of core UX discipline tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Capable visual designer with a strong sense of aesthetics, confident in tools like Photoshop.
  • Experience with LUA or other high-level scripting languages.
  • Experienced with animation, demonstrating how wireframes translate to motion
  • Demonstrated ability to create UX systems for AAA titles, with at least one shipped product.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., LUA) and their application in UX implementation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to create clear, concise documentation and compelling presentations.
  • Proactive work ethic, managing and communicating workload effectively to production and leads.
  • An outstanding portfolio demonstrating technical expertise and personal design values.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $121,500.00 - $224,880.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
