Role Summary:

As part of SPT International Production’s worldwide network of television production companies, SPT Production, Latin America & US Hispanic develops, produces and coproduces scripted and non-scripted, Spanish language programming for cable and broadcast clients in the US Hispanic and Latin American markets.  With 3 offices serving the region in Mexico, Bogota and Miami, SPT offers a variety of flexible content and business models to its clients.  SPT Production Latin America produces and coproduces scripted Spanish language programming for free TV networks in the region, pan-regional cable channels as well as OTT platforms.  

The Executive Director of Future Content Strategy will report directly to the Vice President of Original Content and will work closely with USH's Latin America and production management team.  He/she will be responsible for leading the development efforts of the Mexico Production Office.   This executive will also collaborate with SPT's joint production companies in Colombia (Teleset) and Brazil (Sao Paolo) to share projects across the region, and with Sony's global scripted series team that supports SPT's scripted production business worldwide and identifies formats from other regions to exploit worldwide.

The main objective of this role is to bring compelling stories and projects to the division for successful development. Matching these projects with the best creative writers, overseeing the development process and collaborating with the production team once projects are greenlit for production. Lead pitch presentations to support the sale and production of scripted series for free-to-air and pan-regional cable television programming clients across USH and Latin America.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Generate innovative strategies for both the development of original content and new IP for the company, as well as for the placement of projects on different platforms.
  • Supervision of projects in development within the Original Content area during the creative process of gestation, writing and development.
  • Continuous search for new talent with special attention to screenwriters, directors and creators relevant to Latin America.
  • Direct collaboration in the pitch and sales process of the products with special attention to Premium platforms.
  • Advice and assistance to the writing teams so that content meets the required quality and production parameters.
  • Continuous search for new IP, evaluation of projects, ideas and concepts with high potential for local markets and regional appeal, with a focus on Colombia, Mexico and the USH market.
  • Lead and work closely with the creative team of each co-production partner or commissioning broadcaster in the development process; identify and package elements to assist in the sale of scripted series (i.e. IP, lead cast, lead writer, EP, director, artwork, etc.).
  • Working hand in hand with the production team before, during and after each development. Creating budgets, supervising pre-production, proposing talent and creative team, supervising final materials so that they meet the quality standards of both the production company and the client.
  • Work closely with the distribution department to ensure that projects developed or in development have a wider market reach.
  • Conceptualize and supervise the creation of sales and pitching material for different projects.
  • Manage the process of evaluating and developing ideas and concepts that can be turned into successful projects, including Sony's intellectual property.
  • Collaborate with Postproduction team to oversee the final stages of each project until its delivery to clients.
  • Working with commercial affairs to close option deals, development deals with writers, producers and broadcasters. Contributing to the annual budget and planning process.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Master’s Degree is preferred (with focus in Communications, Production, or Entertainment)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the entertainment field is required. Executive with a minimum of 6 years' experience as a creative/developer in a production company or television network, developing original concepts, as well as concepts proposed by external writers/producers/broadcasters, into viable, quality stories and scripts for commercial television production.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of market needs and behavior to generate medium to long term strategies for the Original Content team.
  • Experienced in structuring, scripting and invigorating storylines.

Skills:

  • Active and creative involvement in all aspects of content: Creative Labs, concept creation, strategy development, team selection, broadcast initiatives and production needs.
  • People management skills, capable of managing complex internal organizations with a mix of creative, analytical and showbiz personalities.
  • Customer-focused content developer with a deep understanding of Sony's multiple audience dynamics.
  • Collaborative team player. Intelligent leadership and continuous communication with coworkers, clients.
