Summary

The Data Center Operations and Maintenance Manager leads a team responsible for maintaining and operating sophisticated electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems in a critical facilities environment. Responsibilities include planning and executing operational budgets, setting deployment strategies across multiple sites, integrating Google-wide strategies with business partners, creating cost-effective operational strategies, and driving innovation to address data center challenges. The role involves managing data center performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time, ensuring EHS standards are met, and providing daily assistance to technical teams. The Manager will also generate ideas, deliver recommendations to C-level executives, and drive implementation of those recommendations.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Critical facilities management experience
  • Mission-critical facilities portfolio management
  • Electrical and mechanical systems understanding
  • Effective leadership and communication skills
  • Team management experience
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Experience as Facilities Manager or Chief Engineer
  • Fluency in French and English

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in critical facilities management including facility, technical, and team management.
  • Experience managing a mission critical facilities portfolio.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an Engineering field.
  • Experience as a Facilities Manager or Chief Engineer at a data center or a related environment (industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or military).
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Effective people management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate in French and English fluently to support client relationship management in this region.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facility Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You'll provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

You will develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.
