Microsoft seeks a Brand Writer to contribute to the development of Copilot, their AI companion. This role involves shaping the product's voice and personality across various platforms. We’re on the lookout for a talented and passionate Brand Writer to help build the next wave of capabilities of our personal AI companion, Copilot. We're looking for someone who has experience and passion for driving the end-to-end process of setting design vision and execution for innovative zero-to-one consumer products. By applying to this U.S. Mountain View, CA position, you are required to be local to the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week.  

Qualifications

Required Responsibilities:  

  • 3+ years proven writing or content design experience AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related field 
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • 1+ year(s) project leadership experience.

Preferred Responsibilities: 

  • A current portfolio is a must.
  • 5+ years' experience of demonstrated growth in writing or content design. 
  • 2+ years' experience in brand agency environments and experience with brand thinking, naming and more. 
  • Extensive experience with brand writing, creatinve voice, personality, and values to create copy that amplifies in product and marketing.
  • Experience working collaboratively with personality teams
  • Proven track record with influencing brand, product and marketing copy
  • Demonstrated experience with distilling down complex content into simple, cohesive material that spans across the Copilot product portfolio.
  • Experience with brand thinking and naming
  • AI experience is a must. 

Writing IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and define editorial judgment and data-driven insights/feedback loops to plan and maintain content across different areas (e.g., for a content set, reviewing, improving, editing, or removing content; for a design review, reviewing and critiquing interaction design and user-experience [UX] text). 
  • Drives content approval and review process with partners across the organization and develop the language for Copilot, the core of the product. 
  • Shapes the content story with cross-company partners to keep it within the established tone, voice, and broader communications strategy. 
  • Drive building world-class AI applications that will delight consumers across Copilot, Edge, Bing, Windows and Mobile.   
  • Own a product writing area and be responsible for understanding user needs and behaviors, defining product requirements, managing end-to-end product development, launches and iterations.  
  • Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to get your work into the hands of users quickly and iteratively.   
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, design-driven, product development cycle.  
  • Translate business goals into strategy, user experience and technical requirements in close collaboration with UX designers and AI model training teams. 
  • Define goals and performance indicators, set up and oversee experiments, measure success with data and research.  
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to build exceptional consumer-grade applications.
