Summary

Onward Search is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a 1+ year contract role with a world-class healthcare provider. This fully remote position involves developing and maintaining a flagship mobile application used by patients to access health information, communicate with providers, and manage expenses. Key responsibilities include utilizing Kotlin, Java, and Android SDK to build features and improve app performance; collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet user needs and business objectives; working with the latest mobile technologies and integrating third-party SDKs and RESTful APIs; and ensuring code quality through TDD and Agile development practices. The ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of experience in native Android development, expertise in Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, and Android UI design principles, and strong understanding of MVVM architecture and design patterns. Experience with Git, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies is essential. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative, patient-centered healthcare solutions and leverage digital innovation to improve patient care.

This fully remote, 1+ year contract role offers the opportunity to contribute to an innovative, patient-centered healthcare app.

In this role, you'll join the Software Engineering team to develop and enhance a flagship mobile application, leveraging Kotlin, Java, and MVVM architecture. You'll work closely with a cross-functional team to drive impactful changes in healthcare delivery, supporting Mayo Clinic’s mission to improve patient care through digital innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a mission-critical mobile app used by patients to access health information, communicate with healthcare providers, and manage healthcare expenses.
  • Utilize Kotlin, Java, and Android SDK to build new features and improve app performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the app aligns with business objectives and meets user needs.
  • Work with the latest mobile technologies, integrating third-party SDKs, libraries, and RESTful APIs.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of app features using the MVVM architecture and Android UI design principles.
  • Ensure code quality through TDD programming and Agile development practices.
  • Work in a continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) environment to streamline app updates and releases.
  • Help shape the app’s growth by publishing to the Google Play Store and maintaining version control with Git.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience developing native Android mobile applications.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, and Android UI design principles.
  • Solid experience with Android Studio, Gradle, and related development tools.
  • Experience with integrating third-party SDKs and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Strong understanding of the MVVM architecture and design patterns.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD processes, and Agile development environments.
  • Proven ability to publish Android apps to the Google Play Store.
  • Experience with TDD and Agile development methodologies.
  • Additional experience with GraphQL, Adobe Experience Manager, or in the healthcare industry is a plus.
