Job Description

Bad Robot Games is seeking a Senior Technical Artist with a proven history of developing groundbreaking tech for AAA games. You will collaborate with art, engineering, and gameplay to create technical pipelines, shaders, rendering features, VFX, and procedural tools to empower game creation at BRG. Key responsibilities include driving content creation tools to speed up art production, collaborating across disciplines, owning feature creation from start to finish, and innovating on art creation processes to deliver high-quality, performant results at scale.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of experience in AAA game development
  • Shipped at least 1 product in Unreal
  • Strong Unreal experience, including shader and blueprint creation
  • Preference for realism and passion for realistic projects
  • In-depth knowledge of complex, real-time shaders
  • Experience in designing procedural systems for content creation
  • Understanding of art asset optimization and its impact on gameplay performance
  • Highly collaborative mindset and adaptability to a small team
Good to have:
  • Coding skills in Python or C++
  • Complex shader creation outside of node-based systems (i.e. HLSL)
  • Experience with Houdini in a production environment

Bad Robot Games is looking for a Senior Technical Artist that has a proven history in the games industry developing groundbreaking tech for AAA games. You will work closely with art, engineering and gameplay to create technical pipelines, shaders, rendering features, VFX, and procedural tools to empower games creation at BRG.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives content creation tools to help speed up art production
  • Collaborates with multiple disciplines and owns feature creation from start to finish
  • Innovates on art creation processes to deliver high quality, performant results at scale

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience as a technical artist in AAA game development, has shipped at least 1 product in Unreal, and has a thorough understanding of VFX pipelines
  • Strong Unreal experience, including shader and blueprint creation
  • Has a preference for realism and has the passion to work on realistic projects
  • Has in-depth knowledge of complex, real-time shaders
  • Experience in designing procedural systems for content creation, either in engine or middleware
  • A great understanding of art asset optimization and how it affects gameplay performance
  • A highly collaborative mindset and the ability adapt to the needs of a small team
  • All of our roles require up to 10% air travel. Examples include Studio/Team Offsites, Team/Studio Events, etc.

BONUSES

Annual Salary Range: $137,500 - $142,500

Our ranges are based on California market rate regardless of work location in the US.
