Job Summary:

This position is responsible for all tasks associated with the creation, definition, documentation and implementation of Lighting design requirements for any variety of attractions and facilities.

They should have the capability to lead large projects under the Creative Direction.

Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining the show lighting database for all locations, conducting a training class on artistic maintenance procedures, as well as designing certain custom fixtures as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Define attraction lighting requirements as a lead designer
  • Coordinate artistic maintenance of show lighting installations at all resort facilities, working closely with Facility Services, Operations and Attractions personnel to ensure consistent maintenance of WDI standards and adherence to creative theme intentions
  • Design and program custom, themed fixtures and other lighting items as required
  • Manage full plan for show lighting upgrades to be included in the integrated facility planning (IFP)
  • Lead projects of large complexity
  • Monitor the park-wide lighting system daily to ensure peak efficiency and energy usage; program new lighting to maintain consistent high quality control; contact system manufacturer as needed to resolve lighting issues; remain on call for lighting-related issues
  • Conduct periodic show reviews to check physical condition of all lighting fixtures and generate reports on color, focus, status, bulb type, etc.
  • Create and teach regular classes on show lighting standards, maintenance and design
  • Be the leading field Show Lighting Designer in implementing HKDL-based projects
  • Maintain a database of all show lighting documentation worldwide to enable designers to access the latest installation information

Requirements:

  • College degree, BFA or Lighting Design degree or above
  • Minimum 5 years experience in theme parks and 10 years in the industry
  • Experience leading at least 3 complex theme park projects
  • Current knowledge of new and developing technologies in the field
  • Strong experience with SQS standards and procedures
  • In-depth knowledge of lighting equipment and vendors
  • Ability to define and teach training classes
  • Strong working knowledge of Disney show lighting design principles
  • Ability to produce designs reflecting both theatrical and environmental aspects of WDI products
  • Proficiency with computer systems, databases and documentation procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well independently and in teams
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods
  • Thrives in high-pressure environments with strict deadlines
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for all aspects of the guest experience
