As a Senior QA Tester at Shapefarm, you'll be embedded within the development team in Tokyo, responsible for ensuring the high quality of games and updates before release. Key responsibilities include planning testing for new features, developing and maintaining test plans and cases, reporting on game status to stakeholders, identifying and reporting issues in Jira, liaising with external QA teams, mentoring junior QA members, preparing and deploying game builds, contributing to process improvements, and actively participating in enhancing software development methodologies. This is a 12-month contract role requiring on-site presence in Tokyo, with the possibility of some fully in-office weeks during the contract period. Experience shipping at least two titles in a senior QA role is essential. Proven skills in bug finding, communication, reporting, and working under pressure are also crucial.
Must have:

As a Senior QA Tester, you will be embedded within the development team and will be responsible for testing the game and subsequent updates before release, so the project is high quality in terms of overall player experience, technical considerations, platform requirements and stability.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our Development team to plan testing for features in development
  • Develop and maintain Test Plans and Test Cases.
  • Provide comprehensive reports to stakeholders on the current state of the game.
  • Identifying, investigating and reporting issues in JIRA.
  • Liaise with external QA teams to plan test resource and test strategies.
  • Mentor and guide other QA team members through motivation, reviews and feedback.
  • Prepare and deploy game builds as required.
  • Active participation in helping improve your team’s software development methodologies
  • Contributing towards test process improvements and effectiveness through experimentation
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation for action by proactively moving activities and issues forward

Qualifications and Experience

  • Shipped at least two titles in a Senior QA role
  • A great understanding of QA process and testing methodologies in order to implement innovative QA approaches and processes.
  • Ability to identify gaps in testing and to strategise around this.
  • Experience working with both internal and external teams.
  • You have a proven ability for bug finding, communication, reporting skills and working under pressure
  • Excellent analytical, problem identification and solving skills
  • Knowledgeable in the different stages of a project’s development and different development methodologies
  • Experienced with a variety of test tools including bug databases like Jira
  • Experience in creating or contributing to the overall test strategy for a project
  • Experience testing on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms is beneficial
  • Experience working in an agile environment and SCRUM methodology is beneficial
  • Experience writing or planning automated tests

Japanese Visa Qualifications

  •   A bachelor's degree or 10 years of experience.


Timezones and work location

We are considering candidates based in Japan or New Zealand (as we have physical studios in both locations).

This role must be in office, for some months if will be in office all 5 days of the week.

We are looking to hire a Full Time employee, for a Fixed Term of 12 months.
