Meet Our Team: 

DTC’s many software engineering teams build applications for the web, mobile, tablets, connected TVs, consoles, and other streaming devices. Every customer starts their wonderful journey into the world of WBD through DTC’s Identity and Growth teams. We ensure customers can seamlessly authenticate and authorize across all WBD brands.

The Commerce and Identity groups are part of the Core & Data organization within WBD’s Global Tech division. Our services handle all aspects of managing our user identities and monetizing our streaming services. This includes everything from login, registration and account management to managing products, pricing, and promotions; selling subscriptions and pay-per-view events; integration with 3rd party providers for global and local payment methods; handling taxes, fraud, financial reporting, and much, much more. We provide the backend APIs that power all our clients, and our teams own design, build, maintain, and are responsible to both deploy and operate our services. The group is currently based in US, Sweden, and Poland and is now expanding in India.

We are a fast-growing, global engineering group crucial to WBD’s future. We need a development leader who is comfortable turning the needs of our engineering community into a thoughtful vision, leading, and mentoring senior managers, and acting as an agent of change across the organization.

We are setting up an India Development Center to better support our global streaming services and assist international teams. We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering who will help build and grow the India Identity and Commerce teams and enable the global expansion of our services.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

The Director of Engineering is responsible for building a set of high-performing engineering teams comprising of engineers, engineering managers, and technical program managers, to enable rapid consolidation of platforms to a unified authentication and authorization experience. They will own part of the own identity and commerce roadmap. They will support and lead the engineering managers and their teams to identify and provide solutions to technological gaps. They will uphold rigorous standards of engineering and operational excellence, as practiced widely across WBD. They will attract, coach, and retain key talent and provide opportunities for professional and career growth.

  • Building and managing a team of high-performing engineers and managers. Ensure retention through challenging professional opportunities and career growth prospects.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders across platform, back-end, and client engineering; program management; champion engineering excellence.
  • Identify new opportunities and enhancements and feed them to the shared roadmap for prioritization.
  • Identify and manage partner relationships internally and externally to ensure smooth integration into the WBD product delivery process.
  • Ability to manage complexity and uncertainty associated with new product development.
  • Influence and champion process, tools, operations, and technological improvements to operate global scale cloud-based platform services.
  • Mentor other software development managers throughout the organization building next generation of leaders.
  • Build self-service tooling to automate platform adoption of identity services for both internal and external stakeholders.

What to Bring:

  • 15+ years leading and managing software development teams. 
  • A record of building, scaling, and growing diverse, global teams of 30+ engineers comprising multiple SDMs and ownership of an engineer-first software service/product.
  • Strong technical understanding of Kubernetes-based microservice architectures, messaging services, DB services, API gateways, service mesh, and infrastructure-as-code technologies/processes.
  • Experience building and operating global-scale large platform services in non-prod and prod environments.
  • Experience establishing and improving data-driven infrastructure and service KPIs such as performance, scale, availability, reliability, security.
  • Experience building and growing a team of engineers with focus on authentication and authorization systems, and migration of users with a high bar for engineering and operational excellence.
  • A strong understanding of security best practices and a high bar for protecting customer data.
  • Experience in collaborating with external partners to create safe and scalable mechanisms to share or move customer data with accuracy and resiliency.
  • Experience working across cross-functional engineering teams as stakeholders and partners consuming a global platform service.
  • Effective communication skills, good balance of empathy, leading by example, player-coach as needed, influence and drive change.
  • Demonstrated experience with building systems using agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar).
